Job Description

Full-Time, 36-40 Hours/Week

Night and Day Shift available

$5,000-$6,000 Sign on bonus (taxable) available

Summary:

Responsible for the collection, processing, and testing of laboratory specimens from all patient types to aid in disease diagnosis. The role requires knowledge and application of laboratory science techniques, attention to detail, quality control, and proficiency with sophisticated testing equipment and computers. Troubleshooting and maintenance skills are also essential to ensure accurate equipment functioning.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs routine and complex laboratory tests.
  2. Operates various instrumentation and equipment to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment.
  3. Prioritizes different test requests.
  4. Follows all hospital and laboratory policies and procedures, including specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping.
  5. Communicates appropriately with patients and families, considering their understanding levels.
  6. Reports critical information to physicians or caregivers within established timeframes.
  7. Performs other duties as required.

Other information:

Technical Expertise

  1. Experience in a clinical laboratory setting, including recent experience in multiple disciplines.
  2. Experience with high complexity testing is required.
  3. Experience working across organizational levels is required.
  4. Healthcare experience is preferred.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.

Education and Experience

  1. Associate degree in a program defined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is required.
  2. Certification or eligibility for certification by ASCP at the Technologist level, or grandfathered certification prior to 2004, is required. Certification must be obtained within 12 months of starting the position. Certification through AMT also qualifies. Must obtain certification within 18 months of employment.
  3. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
  4. No supervisory experience is necessary.
