Mechanical Quantity Surveyor – Data Centre Project – Milan, Italy

Location: Italy, Italy Salary: 95,000 + Accommodation + Transport + Rotation 17/4 + 1,000 Living Cost

A leading European engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team on a flagship data centre development in Milan. This is a long-term position with strong project visibility and the opportunity to deliver high-spec mechanical packages from pre-contract through to final account.

You’ll play a vital role in maximising commercial performance, managing costs, and ensuring the financial health of mission-critical projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commercial management of mechanical packages valued over 5 million, from tender through to final account.
  • Prepare and manage cost plans, BOQs, valuations, progress claims, remeasurements, and subcontractor accounts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely applications for payment, inclusive of all variations, dayworks, change orders, and escalation clauses.
  • Attend and support internal and external commercial meetings, providing updates on cost status and financial risk.
  • Collaborate with the planning team to align progress reporting with financial tracking.
  • Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor claims, interim applications, and final settlements.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and backup to support commercial reporting and audit compliance.
  • Contribute to tender review, risk identification, and pricing strategies.
  • Support compliance with contract conditions, procurement terms, and quality standards.
  • Champion commercial governance, EHS awareness, and quality-focused delivery.

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or equivalent; background in mechanical trades (pipefitting/plumbing) is an advantage.
  • 4+ years of experience in a QS role, ideally on mechanical works in the data centre, pharmaceutical, or industrial sectors.
  • Proficient in Excel and QS software tools; strong understanding of contract frameworks.
  • Excellent negotiation, reporting, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritise, multitask, and work to tight deadlines.
  • Fluent in English; Italian language skills beneficial.
