Mechanical Design Engineer

AVL Italy is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for Engine System Components for a customer project.
Under the direction of the Engine Design Lead Engineer of the customer in the project, the resource implements specific engineering tasks as assigned, utilizing engineering principles and technical development of new components, components upgrades, prototypes, 3D & 2D tasks, with the utilization of computer-aided design tool both individually and/or in a team, and other duties as assigned or requested.
He/she design mechanical solutions based on incoming requirements, applying the company best practices for the development, and provides 2D-3D CAD drawings/calculations/documentation as output.

Responsibilities:

  • Creation of 3D CAD models of Engine Systems components ready for Proto and/or B sample (3 levels):
    - Low Effort → modification of existing brackets, fixing points; optimizations on existing components (holes, ribs, fixing points, cutting changes, etc.)
    - Medium Effort → creation of new CAD data for specific new brackets, new add-on components; modification on existing components
    - High Effort → Creation of new CAD model for Engine components, assemblies and systems (air filter box, manifolds, heat shield, muffler, Exhaust system, etc.)
  • Creation of 3D models for rapid prototyping (.stl or similar) and support to assembly operation
  • Creation of 2D drawings including all the technical information (material, weight, points, sections, control points, tolerance definition, notes, test list, etc.) necessary for B-release
  • 3D and 2D storage in PDM, Sharefolders and sharing with suppliers or internal offices
  • Feasibility Studies of single components or assemblies starting from proposals and related checks
  • Creation of Assembly Procedure with exploded views, tightening torques, necessary information
  • Management of List of Open Points and reporting CAD activities
  • Interface with proto suppliers, loop with them based on their proposals and feasibility checks
  • List of components management, alignment, update (BOM).

Profile:

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Mechanical, Vehicle or Mechatronic Engineering
  • At least 5 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of CAD tools like Catia and Creo to deliver parts, models, assemblies and drawings
  • Knowledge of PDM software (knowledge of the Windchill is considered a plus)
  • Knowledge of productive processes such as moulding, casting, machining etc.
  • Applied knowledge and application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Professional use of Microsoft Office
  • Good knowledge of English.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in automotive OEM and/or Tier 1 supplier
  • Knowledge of Engine Parts Development and Project Phases
  • Experience in ICE and related design rules, guidelines and architectures.
