Baker Hughes in Italy is seeking a Lead Engineer, Mechanical, Product Design and Engineering to drive design, development and industrialization of advanced rotating equipment, including compressors and turbomachinery.

The role focuses on selecting mechanical configurations, performing analyses, and delivering concepts and detailed documentation for new products in energy technology. Fluency in English and a Master’s degree are required.

Qualifications

• Master degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of mechanical configuration and drawings of machines and related production/assembly/testing phase
• Experience in turbomachinery calculation and configuration, especially in compressors
• Good verbal and written skills, fluency in English

Responsibilities

• Drive the machine selection and the mechanical configuration of new products & solutions including the design, validation and industrialization phase.
• Lead and execute main calculations, mechanical analyses, cost analyses, manufacturability and drawings in order to technically define the machine from a configuration point of view.
• Lead ideas providing relevant effort in structuring conceptual roadmaps to target the goals.
• Definition of new design tools and validation of new concepts and products.
• Lead detailed technical reports and documentation of the design and testing phases.

The Mechanical Configuration Lead Design Engineer will actively execute the design and development phase of new rotating equipment such as Centrifugal and Axial Compressors, Turboexpanders, Reciprocating Compressors, Innovative Rotating Equipment with a special focus on the product development design phase.

In a multidisciplinary and stimulating environment you will cover mainly the selection and the mechanical configuration of the machine by also applying general design principles of compressors & radial expanders, adapt the products to evolving market of energy transition and succeed in their final definition. The main development areas will be related to Gas Technology, Hydrogen Compression, Energy Storage, Waste Heat Recovery Systems, CCUS (Carbon Capture Use and Storage).

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the machine selection and the mechanical configuration of new products & solutions including the design, validation and industrialization phase.

To be successful in this role you will

• Have an open mindset ready to learn and apply new concepts.
• Have a Master Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or Equivalent.
• Good knowledge of mechanical configuration & drawings of machines and related production/assembly/testing phase.
• Good knowledge of mechanical analyses involved into the design of a machine and main understanding of mechanical behaviors of materials.
• Knowledge of basic thermodynamics and basic aerodynamics of a turbomachinery.
• Demonstrate good computer skills and be familiar with CAD & FEA techniques.
• Experience in turbomachinery calculation and configuration, especially in compressors, is a plus.
• Have good verbal and written skills, be fluent in English.

For Italy

The initial pay range for this position will be EUR 43,600 To 70,000. The provisions of Contratto Collettivo Industria Metalmeccanica e della installazione di impianti will be applied to this position. Section VI – Titolo IV of that collective bargaining agreement relates to pay.
