Accountabilities
This position is responsible for managing all fabric and materials-related matters in development, execution, and approval processes that meet MCM fabric standards. It supports the design, product development, and merchandising teams in seasonal fabric development and ongoing R&D for MCM. The role requires interaction with cross-functional partners, overseas offices, and suppliers. Candidates must thrive in a fast-paced environment, be highly organized, clear communicators, and have a refined taste level.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive innovation in fabric sourcing for seasonal categories.
- Support fabric development processes as directed by senior management and design teams.
- Research and source innovative, seasonal materials aligning with market trends and MCM's vision.
- Maintain a detailed material reference library, archiving records, swatches, and samples.
- Research and develop new materials, techniques, treatments, especially sustainable options suitable for luxury positioning.
- Collaborate with Design on seasonal directions, identifying qualities and new developments.
- Upgrade existing key materials and hardware regularly.
- Source seasonal design requests, offering creative solutions outside standard sourcing and pricing strategies.
- Assist in R&D of materials including leather, textiles, and hardware until approval.
- Coordinate with production teams and partners to understand technical constraints and resolve issues.
- Manage materials from development through final handoff, ensuring specifications are up-to-date and aligned with targets.
- Build and maintain vendor matrices and relationships to meet sourcing strategies.
- Negotiate costs to meet target prices.
- Maintain seasonal material charts, boards, and library resources.
- Address operational issues collaboratively, highlighting testing and quality concerns.
- Ensure fabrics meet safety and performance standards through testing.
- Work with textile technologists and mills to resolve technical issues.
- Review and approve material developments with senior leadership.
- Maintain accurate system records for new and approved materials.
- Ensure sampling timelines are met.
- Build relationships with suppliers and offices through ongoing engagement.
- Conduct competitor research and analysis.
Requirements
- Degree in Materials, Textiles, or equivalent experience.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.
- Expertise in raw materials and technical understanding.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to negotiate and build consensus across functions.
- Knowledge of Production and Design processes.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with designers.
- Established vendor relationships.
- Understanding of testing protocols, product integrity, and leather goods construction.
- Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
