Job summary

You will design electronics for underwater and surface robots, with responsibility for imaging, sensing, power, and communications in challenging marine environments. Join a small, fast-moving team and contribute to a vertically integrated system, with inline testing at sea and opportunities to lead in a growing robotics program.

Qualifications

• A degree in electronics engineering, electrical engineering, experimental physics, or a similarly quantitative field.
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools (KiCad, Altium, or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of embedded firmware development in C or C++.
• Familiarity with embedded sensing and opto-electronics such as imaging, LEDs, and field sensors.
• Familiarity with communication protocols used in embedded systems (I2C, SPI, CAN, or similar).
• Familiarity with power electronics fundamentals: power regulators, batteries, power budgeting.
• Experience with ESCs, ideally for BLDC motors or thrusters, and actuator controllers.
• Open to using AI tools as part of the design process, and to trying new R&D methods rather than sticking to the way things have always been done.

Responsibilities

• Design and iterate on enabling electronics of imaging and sensing systems, control boards, power distribution, thruster controllers, and wiring for underwater and surface robots.
• Write and debug firmware for embedded systems and integrate sensors, actuators, and communication modules onto the robot’s electrical architecture.
• Design custom PCBs for external manufacturers and fast-prototype electronics in-house using standard tools.
• Test and characterize boards and wiring harnesses on the bench, in a robot pool, and at sea.
• Collaborate with Mechanical, Optics, and Industrial Design teams to ensure electronics are well integrated with other subsystems.
