Job summary

Malwarebytes is seeking a passionate Malware Research Engineer to join our ThreatDown team in Perugia, Italy. You will help defend customers by writing detection signatures and contributing to protection technologies, with on-site availability strongly preferred.

You will process threat feeds, conduct research, and collaborate across teams to improve detection and response capabilities while contributing to blogs and threat descriptions.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated integrity and passion for customer protection.
• Creative problem solving with a proactive attitude.
• Ability to set up and conduct research in emulated environments (VMware/Hyper-V).
• Experience researching and classifying malicious domains and IPs.
• Experience with malware analysis tools (static/dynamic) and threat research teamwork.
• Working knowledge of Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android.
• Commitment to staying updated on threats and collaborating with others.

Responsibilities

• Process daily threat feeds and write detection rules for multiple technologies.
• Investigate customer inquiries related to protection, performance, and usability.
• Conduct research and threat hunting for current cyber threats.
• Provide feedback on new projects and tools affecting daily work and threat handling.
• Support content creation, including threat descriptions, blogs, and presentations.

We are looking for a passionate Malware Research Engineer to join our research and development team in Perugia, Italy. We want somebody with the real passion of defending the cyberworld, finding new malware, digging into what they do and help protecting our customers by writing detection signatures as well as contributing to protection technologies. It’s more than a job, it is a mission. On-site availability is strongly preferred.

What You Will Do

• Process daily threat-feeds, related to newly created malware and write detection rules for various technologies.
• Investigate and resolve customer related inquiries related to protection, performance, and usability.
• Conduct research and threat hunting for the latest cyber-web threats affecting our customers.
• Provide feedback on new projects and syntaxes/tools being developed that involve your daily work and suggest ideas how to handle different threat types.
• Support content creation efforts incl. threat descriptions, blogs, and presentations

Skills You\'ll Need To Have

• Highly developed sense of integrity and demonstrated passion for excellence with respect to treating and caring for customers.
• Creative thinking and problem solving, with a positive and motivated approach.
• Ability to setup and conduct research/analysis in an emulated/virtual environment, such as VMWare or Hyper-V.
• Ability to research & classify malicious domains and IPs.
• Experience with and understanding of malware research tools involved in static & dynamic analysis and core aspects of a threat research & response team.
• Basic understanding and experience using various operating systems, incl. Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android.
• Ability and passion to stay up to date with the latest malware threats and collaborate with other researchers, coordinators, as well as developers.
