Role Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall management and optimization of maintenance activities, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability of Catania and Medolla sites. The role must ensure that the sites are maintained in accordance with good engineering practice, statutory requirements, and EHS and GMP standards and approved budget.

Responsibilities

Team Supervision

  • Manage, recruit, and develop a team of qualified maintenance technicians
  • Provide inspirational leadership, mentorship, and training programs to ensure continuous professional growth

Maintenance Planning

  • Develop strategic plans for preventive maintenance, aiming to minimize operational disruptions and extend the lifespan of equipment
  • Implement performance monitoring systems to predict and prevent failures

Coordination of Maintenance Activities

  • Coordinate resources to efficiently execute corrective maintenance activities
  • Promptly address issues and implement long-term solutions to prevent recurrence of failures

Resource Management

  • Optimize the utilization of financial, human, and material resources allocated to the department
  • Negotiate with suppliers to ensure timely availability of critical parts and materials

Collaboration with Other Departments

  • Collaborate closely with production, quality, and safety managers to ensure mutual understanding of operational needs and achieve common goals

Adoption of Innovative Technologies

  • Identify and implement innovative technologies, such as predictive maintenance systems, to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs

Budget Management

  • Participate in defining the departmental budget and ensure adherence, constantly seeking opportunities to optimize expenses without compromising maintenance quality

Workplace Safety

  • Oversee the implementation of workplace safety protocols and ensure that the team adheres to high safety standards during maintenance activities

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelors level degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or Industrial / Electrical / Chemical Engineering with a proven experience in machinery/mechanical subjects (e.g. rotating machineries, steam boilers, HVAC/R units, purified water systems, electrical systems)

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the manufacturing environmental and/or engineering operations of pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing facilities (fermentation & API experience is preferred)
  • Consolidated experience into an Engineering & Maintenance team in Italy is preferred, experience in more than 1 facility and functional area in a Pharmaceutical company is a strong plus
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a matrix organization, influence outside of direct reporting relationship and leverage network value

Core Competencies:

  • Fluent in Italian
  • Fluent in English
  • Advanced leadership, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of respective reliability techniques, practices, precedents, theory and principles.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise with drug product manufacturing and packaging equipment or utility systems and equipment (e.g. rotating machineries, boilers, HVAC/R units, purified water systems, HEPA filtration)
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP-PM
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities and understanding of maintenance work processes and the interfaces with other functional groups
  • Previous reliability / maintenance engineering experience preferred. Project management experience and/or equipment reliability principles knowledge preferred
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the Zoetis organization
  • Passionate about Operational Excellence (Continuous Improvement – Lean Manufacturing – 6 sigma – Visual Management – Standard Work – 5S and so on)
  • Understanding of the animal health regulatory requirements
  • Deep knowledge of current GMPs as well as environmental, health and safety regulations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
