Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Maintenance Field Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will handle tasks ranging from statistical analysis of maintenance data to deep train knowledge. This position is based in Pistoia - IT.

Accountabilities

  1. Ensure RAM data collection during vehicle service operations, defining data structures as per contractual requirements.
  2. Support System Support Engineering to manage vehicle configuration and control changes, ensuring traceability and maintaining the vehicle configuration record.
  3. Manage infrastructure systems (e.g., MRX, PanMon, Gotcha) to receive notifications and maintenance alerts, leveraging data for condition-based maintenance, and work towards system integration.
  4. Provide performance analysis and improvement recommendations to stakeholders regarding engineering support IT systems.
  5. Support S&M Bid & Proposal activities, including budget definition for new bids.
  6. Update spare parts lists based on maintenance plans, RAM analyses, and operational experience.
  7. Conduct Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) to optimize corrective maintenance, providing feedback to design and standards teams.
  8. Assist in troubleshooting and managing maintenance activities, analyzing issues, and recommending corrective actions.
  9. Prepare technical specifications for depot tools, coordinate with suppliers, and oversee installation and commissioning.
  10. Provide training to depot maintainers in collaboration with S&M Standard & Training.
  11. Perform failure analysis for warranty cases, validate maintenance manuals and diagnostic messages.
  12. Report maintenance, safety defects, operational events, and failures.
  13. Present operational data (RAM data) to customers.
  14. Ensure the implementation of maintenance plans at depots and external sites, including during commissioning.
  15. Support project activities with on-field analyses, including developing procedures, optimizing maintenance practices, and performing small modifications.
  16. Contribute to continuous improvement programs in S&M Operations, managing operational data.
  17. Assist in supplier assessment and approval processes, ensuring engineering and quality standards are met.
  18. Support S&M Quality control in failure reporting and safety risk assessment.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  1. Experience in the above accountabilities.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, or Systems Engineering or a related technical field.
  3. At least 2 years of railway maintenance engineering experience.
  4. Experience in maintenance plan optimization, troubleshooting, and RAMS analysis.
  5. Willingness to undertake regional projects and travel (more than 60%).
  6. Ability to analyze vehicle systems and interpret contract specifications, drawings, schematics, and cable plans.

Desired Skills/Knowledge

  • Experience in railway fleet maintenance engineering.
  • Knowledge of railway subsystems like ATS, vehicle systems, telecommunications, HVAC, etc.
  • Understanding of software configuration management and programming logic.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools.
  • Experience with ECM projects, homologation, and railway operations principles.
  • Skills in spare parts analysis, design for maintainability, and continuous improvement.

Education / Qualifications

Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification.

Languages

Proficiency in English.
