Competenze

Position Summary

Under moderate supervision, performs moderate level work in the installation, repair, remodel and maintenance of manual and automated locks; locking systems and security devices; computerized access control systems; door openers, closers, and related hardware to provide a secure environment in all University facilities: including offices, classrooms, laboratories, athletic facilities, dining facilities, restrooms, student residences, and other building spaces in accordance with applicable standards of the trade and regulatory agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Under moderate supervision installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts all types of locks and their related components in all campus buildings, furnishings and fixtures, vehicles, and other spaces or equipment that require controlled access.
  2. Under moderate supervision installs, maintains, and repairs commercial hardware of both the conventional and automatic electric types.
  3. Under moderate supervision works with campus police in correcting security breaches.
  4. Under moderate supervision maintains master key system and provides controlled access to related keying codes.
  5. Under moderate supervision maintains inventory of key blanks, cores, and special-use keys.
  6. Under moderate supervision fabricates new keys, replaces broken or lost keys.
  7. Under moderate supervision works with architects to ensure proper specification of hardware and keying for new construction and renovation projects.
  8. Operates and keeps in good working order a variety of equipment including hand and power tools, key-cutting, core assembly, and related equipment.
  9. Under moderate supervision reads and interprets complex keying schematics and spreadsheets and integrates with master key system.
  10. Performs various carpentry, masonry, painting, and plastering work as required.
  11. Coordinates repairs with other trades affected by locksmith operations.
  12. Assists in furniture and event set ups and breakdowns, decorations for special functions, meetings, etc.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned within the normal scope of the department’s responsibilities and the individual’s capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. HS diploma or equivalent and current documentation indicating current successful completion of formal training classes or programs in the locksmith trade or be able to exhibit acceptable life experiences in locksmith work.
  2. A minimum of two years of service in the trade at Villanova University (upon the discretion of Facilities Management).
  3. Minimal knowledge of the following categories: Codes and Code Equipment; Cylinder Servicing; Key Blank Identification; Key Duplication; Key Impressioning; Professional Lock Opening Techniques; Lockset Functions; Lockset Servicing; Basic Master Keying; and Cabinet, Furniture and Mailbox Locks.
  4. Must have the ability to follow both verbal and written directions in English; the ability to interact with students, faculty, administration, and staff in a professional and positive manner, as well as the ability to read and understand OSHA guidelines such as Material Safety Data Sheets, equipment safety data plates, fuel/chemical flash points, etc.
  5. Must possess and maintain personal hand tools required for the trade.
  6. Must have the physical ability to climb ladders, to bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs.; the ability to work in enclosed spaces.
  7. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  8. Must not have any disciplinary actions on file within the previous twelve months of applying for this position.
  9. Must have the ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings/sketches, schematics, and diagrams.
  10. Must have the ability to erect and work on scaffolding as per OSHA standards.
  11. Must have an excellent safety record.
