The role of a Linux Desktop & Devices Support Engineer at Canonical
You will be accountable for delivering an outstanding technical support experience on the full Desktop and Server technical stack at Canonical. From problem qualification to full resolution, you will own and manage your cases. When needed, you will transfer your cases to your colleagues or involve senior engineers.
Your day-to-day job involves providing technical expertise, excellent communication, and a service-oriented approach. You will prioritize customer issues, set aside time for learning about new products and technologies, and participate in training sessions, team gatherings, and company events.

What your day will look like
Your daily duties include:
- Providing technical support from your remote home office for employees.
- Taking ownership of new cases via telephone, email, and web.
- Acting as an internal customer advocate, keeping them updated in a timely manner.
- Handling support cases according to SLA with high customer satisfaction.
- Contributing to knowledge base articles and maintaining existing ones.
- Drafting and distributing technical notices.
- Prioritizing work effectively.
- Continuously learning about our evolving products and services.
- Understanding Ubuntu development processes to set correct customer expectations.
- Maintaining communication with team members locally and remotely.
- Identifying opportunities to improve service.
- Participating in a weekend rotation.
What we are looking for in you
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering).
- Experience with system performance troubleshooting.
- Experience with Linux troubleshooting and server administration.
- Programming fundamentals in languages like Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C/C++, or Go.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, and handle customer-facing pressure.
- Strong English communication skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
Additional skills that you might also bring
- Experience with virtualized environments (KVM, VirtualBox, VMWare).
- Experience supporting open-source desktop technologies.
- Active contribution to open-source projects.
- Experience with Linux Kernel.
