Job Summary

Performs a variety of clerical library and Information Commons work related to such activities as collection maintenance on assigned campus, assisting patrons/students with a variety of questions for the library and Information Commons in various modalities.

Job Duties:

  • Provide embedded librarian services.
  • Serves as a first point of contact while also providing excellent customer service, sharing accurate information with students, staff, faculty and the community for the Information Commons.
  • Assist and instruct patrons in using and learning to independently access library databases and online library catalogs; Supports students with computer access and other general library questions.
  • Documents services provided to the Gateway community by correctly completing Information Commons and Library Tickets
  • Library collection maintenance activities including orderly maintenance of shelves, as directed
  • Keeping the Information Commons desk area organized and uncluttered, maintaining a comfortable and safe working environment.
  • Completing secondary tasks as assigned by department heads or supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in Library Science, Information Science or similar.
  • One to Three years relevant experience.
  • Experience working at a customer service/information desk.
  • Experience working in libraries and using library databases
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • High attention to detail, independent, self-motivated, adaptable to fast-paced environments.
  • Skilled in engaging and supporting students from diverse different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Professional and courteous communication at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Clear verbal and written skills.
  • Efficiently prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Library Science, Information Science or similar.
  • Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
