Job Description

Intuitive Surgical’s EMEA Legal Department acts as an enabling function to :

  • Actively support the business in pursuit of sustainable goals;
  • Stand for a culture of ethics, care, and responsibility; and
  • Empower surgeons to serve patients.

The position is based at Intuitive’s offices in Milan, Italy. It is a single contributor position reporting to the Sr Associate General Counsel (based at the European head offices in Aubonne, Switzerland). In a matrixed subject matter expertise / geographies set-up, the position primarily provides and relays legal support to Intuitive’s activities in Italy and Iberia.

Primary support areas and job duties include :

  • Support the transition in Italy and Iberia from distribution markets to direct sales markets.
  • Promote Intuitive culture and values in Italy and Iberia
  • Ensure compliance of commercial activities in Italy and Iberia with applicable laws, including but not limited to anti-corruption laws and standards, public procurement laws and competition laws.
  • Ensure compliance of commercial activities in Italy and Iberia with Intuitive’s processes and policies, in particular with respect to contracting with healthcare professionals, hospitals, vendors, suppliers or subcontractors.
  • Support the day-to-day activities of the commercial teams (e.g. Sales, Marketing, MACA, Public Affairs, Customer Training) in Italy and Iberia by giving timely and actionable legal guidance as well as internal trainings (as appropriate).
  • Support the day-to-day activities of the back-office functions (e.g. Commercial Solutions, Tender, Customer Solutions, Indirect Procurement, Finance, Logistics, Trade Compliance, Customer Service) in Italy and Iberia by giving timely and precise legal guidance as well as internal trainings (as appropriate)
  • Collaborate with and support the functions ensuring HCP-Compliance and compliance with local anti-kickback regulations.

The support areas and job duties may vary based on actual needs and priorities in Italy and Iberia. The position will be supported by subject matter expertise within the EMEA Legal Group as well as external consultants on a as needed basis.

Qualifications

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Qualified in Italy with 12+ years of post-qualification professional experience. Law firm experience as well as experience in the medical device sector are preferred.
  • Excellent legal drafting skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Italian and Spanish. Portuguese is a plus.
  • Ability to drive pragmatic legal outcomes, working across jurisdictions to ensure global consistency while allowing for local specificities (comparative law thinking acumen).
  • Understanding laws, regulations, Industry Codes, and best practices governing the medical device industry, the promotion and sale of medical devices, the interactions with healthcare professionals and competent authorities
  • Excellent training and presentation skills in English, Italian and Spanish.
  • Genuine team player.

  • Flawless and unquestionable integrity, lived up to and clearly communicated as an integral part of your business acumen – with courage, determination, and clarity of purpose.
