The opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Legal Italy, the Legal Counsel will provide professional advice on a wide range of legal topics, primarily for Hitachi Energy's Grid Integration business unit with a focus on high value complex tenders and projects in the HVDC business (i.e. HVDC Interconnectors, offshore wind connections, grid and power quality solutions, etc.).
How you'll make an impact
- Meeting with customers, partners, and suppliers, negotiating contract terms (including framework agreements and partnership/consortium agreements) in collaboration with relevant business stakeholders, also to drive the development of different business models particularly with regard to high value complex tenders and projects, like HVDC, offshore wind connections, substations, and FACTS.
- Identifying legal issues of concern to the business and proactively developing effective legal strategies, mitigation actions, and practical solutions in support of business activities.
- Contributing to the preparation of tender submissions by in particular review of tender documents, identification of risks, drafting of deviations, and participation in risk reviews relating to the respective project.
- Collaboration with local and global legal as well as interdisciplinary teams.
- Promoting dispute avoidance and managing disputes and litigations with internal and external stakeholders, including liaising, where necessary, with external law firms and experts.
- Ensuring compliance with the applicable laws and regulations as well as internal processes, regulations, and guidelines in various fields.
- Contributing to the development of guidelines and directives and assisting with their implementation.
- Supporting the implementation of the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and assisting the resolution of integrity-related issues and other actions.
Your background
- University Law Degree
- Previous working experience as a lawyer, preferably relating to grid system or major construction/engineering projects with a successful track record of handling complex international corporate and commercial transactions as well as substantial claims and litigations.
- Knowledge of local public procurement law, governmental and commercial regulations, and practices; working knowledge of FIDIC and offshore contracts.
- Proven communication, drafting of contracts, and negotiation skills; strong interpersonal skills including team spirit.
- Committed, business-minded, and solution-oriented; strong decision-making capability as well as ability to influence at all levels.
- Ability to travel.
- Proficiency in Italian and English; proficiency in other European languages is a plus.
