General Insurance is a leading provider of insurance products and services for commercial and personal insurance customers. It includes one of the world’s most far-reaching property casualty networks. General Insurance offers a broad range of products through a diversified, multichannel distribution network.

About the role

This role will work with the Country counsel in Italy in cooperation with the rest of the legal team.

This role will be a key contributor to managing insurance products and distribution schemes to be launched in Italy, aligning with AIG Europe’s strategy to pursue new market opportunities where AIG aims to lead ahead of competitors. The successful candidate will also handle company secretariat duties and oversee controls over distribution networks, including liaising with Italian and Luxembourg regulators.

Responsibilities include :

  • Provide high-quality legal support and advice in a prompt, pragmatic, and cost-effective manner to business stakeholders in Italy.
  • Support and guide the Italian operations and broader legal team regarding legal risks.
  • Advise proactively on regulatory and legislative developments and ensure these are reflected in transaction documents and business processes.
  • Assist in drafting or reviewing insurance contracts, distribution agreements, pre-contractual documentation, and marketing materials.
  • Support corporate secretariat activities for AIG entities in Italy.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel on key projects under supervision.
  • Maintain professional relationships within the country and with the wider GLCR team.
  • Negotiate non-claims disputes (primarily non-contentious).
  • Assist the Regulatory team and Head of Legal in interactions with regulators and trade associations.
  • Support other legal functions, including labor law, data protection, and competition law issues, as needed.

Qualifications :

  • Law degree and qualification to the Italian bar.
  • Experience in law firms or in-house legal departments.
  • Enthusiasm for working within an in-house insurance legal team.
  • Skilled in drafting commercial contracts.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Teamwork and initiative.
