Your New Role
- Assist in the ongoing development of the Italian branch on all legal aspects of the business and serve as a valuable resource to the Italian team.
- Develop awareness of legal risk and promote a risk management culture within the business and support units to ensure compliance with best practices.
- Support the business and support units with commercial projects and contractual arrangements, including IT and material outsourcing, marketing and sponsorship arrangements, and procurement agreements.
- Draft and advise on policy documentation such as wordings, reinsurance treaties, facultative agreements, schedules, endorsements, policies, and related documents.
- Provide legal advice on insurance contracts and distribution structures, including TOBAs, DUAs, DCA, broker service arrangements, novations, and broker remuneration issues.
- Be familiar with existing legal risk management processes and assist the Head of Legal or Senior Legal Counsel to ensure risks are managed according to best practices and corporate philosophy.
- Support initiatives of the EO Legal Team to deliver practical legal support and maintain consistency in legal risk management advice.
- Assist with dispute resolution and claims matters as needed.
- Represent the EO Legal Team in providing legal advice to Italian business units and local management.
- Guide and manage Assistant Legal Counsels and Paralegals on an ad-hoc basis.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients within the business.
- Manage expectations of legal leadership and business units regarding service delivery.
- Ensure the EO Legal Team is the first point of contact for legal advice.
- Provide legal support on Italian business projects and review or draft contracts to ensure compliance and soundness.
- Negotiate with third parties to facilitate contract execution and completion.
- Report relevant issues or concerns to the Head of Legal or Senior Legal Counsel.
About You
- Minimum 5 years PQE with relevant experience as in-house counsel or at a law firm, qualified with an Italian Law Degree.
- Confidence to act independently, make technical decisions, and know when to seek advice.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with European Legal Team colleagues and other business units, balancing legal issues with business objectives.
- Ability to identify risks and propose appropriate solutions based on experience.
- Strong academic background and technical skills, with a focus on delivery.
- Experience in regulatory and/or insurance sectors is essential.
- Significant experience in leading insurance law practices or working in-house at a reputable insurance company.
- Thorough understanding of Italian law, including specialist areas and excellent drafting skills.
- Knowledge of Italian insurance regulation and its impact on contracts.
- Understanding of general corporate laws applicable in Italy, including company law, agency law, competition law.
- Knowledge of tort and non-contractual obligations relevant to QBE.
- Proficient in MS Office products.
