Leaf Station - Software Developer

Leaf Space provides services for customers to configure and operate their space assets through a multi-mission ground station network, Leaf Line. We seek a Software Developer to drive the development and evolution of Leaf Space products. The Software Developer is responsible for designing, developing, improving, and maintaining all services forming the foundation of the Leaf Space GSaaS solution, including orchestration, control plane, and data plane architecture and interfaces.

Focus on understanding the vision for the Leaf Space products and bridging technical and market perspectives to ensure the software meets customer needs and industry demands. Apply best practices and architectural principles to deliver scalable and high-performing solutions aligned with these goals. The Software Developer takes ownership of developing new solutions for our customers and internal stakeholders, translating complex requirements into production-ready releases, ensuring alignment with deadlines and roadmaps.

As a Software Developer, you will play a key role in driving the innovation of Leaf Space products, addressing specific stakeholder requests, and proposing advanced solutions to push the market forward. Working within our Scrum Agile Methodology framework, you will contribute significantly to the technical vision and strategy of our Leaf Station products through collaborative development and iterative delivery.

The Software Developer ensures the reliability, scalability, and security of Leaf Space's services, leading new feature development, API design, business logic-related SATCOM operations, CI/CD pipelines, debugging, and validation processes.

As part of the Ground Station software product team, your job will be to work on software controlling and monitoring the different components of the ground station (antennas, modems, servers for the most part).

This role requires deep expertise in software development best practices, including OOP (Object Oriented Programming), data design, design patterns, and contemporary software trends. General knowledge about signal processing and telecommunications would also be a plus to be able to criticize the behavior of our equipment. Working with the Director of Product Development and Product Owners, you will contribute to the strategic evolution of Leaf Space's technology, take architectural decisions, and lead technical discussions.

This role provides a hybrid work environment, combining the flexibility of remote processes with regular in-office days at our headquarters.

We evaluate applications from Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

We expect candidates to demonstrate strong technical knowledge and independent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities - What we expect from you

• Software development, ensuring high-quality implementation aligned with requirements and deadlines.
• Ensure quality assurance, code reviews, and validation processes for all developed features, with well-structured tests.
• Write and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and user guides for developed features.
• Collaborate with product team, and stakeholders to refine and enhance the product.
• Proactively identify and implement optimizations, security improvements, and innovative solutions.
• Actively contribute to Scrum ceremonies, contributing to discussions on technical proposals and best practices.
• Maintain availability for a hybrid work environment, balancing remote work with in-office collaboration at our headquarters.

Requirements - What you should bring to the table

• Extensive expertise in software development, architectural patterns, modern frameworks, and industry trends.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
• Knowledge in signal processing and / or telecommunications are highly valued and will be considered an advantage for this position.
• English is our official language - we are no grammar masters, but proficiency is required!
• Strong knowledge of Design Patterns, SOLID principles.
• Ability to develop in Python Programming language.
• Experience in Unix systems, shell scripting, relational databases, and low-level networking protocols.
• Knowledge about Docker management and deployment.
• Ability to understand, translate, and prioritize complex requirements into technical milestones.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to take ownership of architectural and technical decisions.
• Passion for fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and high technical standards.
• Passion for the Space Industry and related technologies.
