Lead Civil and Structural Engineer
Location : Milan, Italy

Join one of the most strategic energy projects in Africa, the Mozambique LNG Project, valued at approximately $18 billion. This large-scale development includes two LNG trains with a total capacity of 13 MTPA, along with utilities, marine facilities, site infrastructure, and a resettlement village. As a Civil & Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in driving the design completion and execution of critical civil facilities.
Role Overview
- Ensure implementation of proper design for civil structures, drainage, culverts, roads, underground networks, etc.
- Design implementation and execution for the Civil Works within the Civil Structural Engineering team, part of the overall Civil, Structural, Marine Engineering organization.
- Work within a Civil Structural Engineering organization comprising 4 FTE on the company’s side and approximately 260 FTE on the contractor’s side.
- Review and approve around 1,000 technical documents related to Civil discipline.
- Implement engineering specifications and ensure quality assurance in procurement of materials, equipment, and services, maintaining sound engineering practices and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure adherence to all Project HSE requirements, emphasizing safety throughout all Civil design activities, and contribute to developing a safety culture on the project.
- Review deliverables for Civil engineering, focusing on Geotechnical and Hydraulics, detailed engineering for undergrounds, roads, drainage systems, and concrete structures like culverts.
- Provide technical support for construction material selection, testing, and approval.
- Coordinate with the Contractor Civil Engineering site team to ensure efforts are aligned and issues are addressed.
- Identify opportunities and risks related to Civil design, along with mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with Process Safety teams to ensure safety safeguards and mitigations are in place for safe operations.
- Coordinate planning and execution of Civil engineering activities, with an understanding of multidisciplinary engineering, procurement, and overall project execution.
- Assist the Civil & Structural Lead in ensuring EPC contract compliance during execution.
- During site activities, respond promptly to site queries and technical issues, oversee rectification of punch list items, and supervise erection of discipline-related equipment.
Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Civil, Hydraulic, or Transportation Engineering.
- Proficiency in English language.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in design and execution of Oil and Gas or large infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements in international contexts.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering methods, technologies, and computerized design tools.
- Experience working in engineering teams, capable of functioning in both design and operational environments, adaptable to office and site conditions.
- Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD 2D for creating and modifying layouts.
Context and Environment
- Based in Milan during the Engineering phase.
- Potential relocation to site during construction activities upon project completion.
