Junior Technician in Human-Robot Interaction, Genoa

Location: Genoa, via Enrico Melen 83

Project: Social cognition in human-robot interaction

Contract: 3-year fixed-term

About Us

At IIT, we develop human-centered Science and Technology to address societal challenges. Our Genoa headquarters collaborates with 11 centers across Italy and international outposts, focusing on neuroscience, humanoid robotics, nanotechnology, and materials.

Your Team

You will join the Social Cognition in Human-Robot Interaction (S4HRI) Research Line at IIT, led by Prof. Agnieszka Wykowska. Our team studies social cognition mechanisms in interactions with humanoid robots like the iCub, using cognitive neuroscience methods such as EEG, eye tracking, and performance measures. You will also contribute to the VALAWAI project, funded by the EU Horizon Europe program, exploring awareness mechanisms in artificial agents.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop software supporting experiments in human-robot interaction
  2. Assist in managing and maintaining laboratory equipment
  3. Support researchers in their scientific activities
Essential Requirements
  1. Master’s degree in software engineering or related fields
  2. Proficiency in C++ and Python programming (multi-thread, inter-process communication, networking)
  3. Experience with GNU/Linux operating systems
  4. Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  5. Good communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary international team
Additional Skills
  1. Experience with robotics middleware (e.g., ROS or YARP)
  2. Knowledge of AI and machine learning approaches
  3. Experience with EEG/EMG, BCI, or eye-tracking technologies
  4. Experience in full stack web development
