About the Role

As a Junior Optical Networking Engineer at SIAE MICROELETTRONICA you will be involved in a training on the job program through support from senior figures in order to learn the optical network optimization methods mainly related to OTN, Ethernet and WDM routing and design. You will be required to learn the rules for Routing and Wavelength Assignment SW architecture to be implemented into NMS applications in SDN ready optical networks. Gradually you will develop independence in designing and developing software algorithms and design rules.

You will be part of our dynamic SM Optics R&D team, an organization that has been pioneering optical-based communication solutions for over 20 years. With a strong international sales presence and a dedicated R&D division, SM Optics provides cutting-edge packet-optical solutions, supporting converged backhauling for fixed and mobile operators, as well as industrial and public sector markets.

Responsibilities

• Development of OTN, Ethernet and WDM routing and design algorithms for optical network optimization.
• Integration of OTN, Ethernet and WDM routing and design criteria in optical planning tools.
• Definition of SDN architecture for next-gen optical platform.

Key Requirements

• Master’s degree in Physics or Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering.
• Good knowledge of one or more programming languages (preferable Python and Matlab).
• Basic knowledge of Italian language.
• Fluent English, B2 Level or higher.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team, fostering a cooperative environment to achieve shared goals.
• Planning, organizational, analytical, decision making and problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Physics or Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering.
• Knowledge of OTN, Ethernet and DWDM technology.
• A temporary work or study experience abroad.
