Descrizione del lavoro

Location: Turin, Italy Full-Time Salary Range: €28,000 - €35,000

Join ORiS and help build the future of energy in space.

At ORiS, we are building the technologies that will power the next generation of space missions. Through laser-based wireless power transmission, we aim to overcome the energy limitations of today’s satellites and enable longer, more capable, and more resilient operations in orbit.

We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to support the development of ORiS’s laser-based wireless power transmission systems for both defence and space applications.

Working closely with the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to the mechanical development of LOONA as it evolves from an advanced prototype into a robust and deployable product, while also supporting the design and integration of the mechanical subsystems for ORiS’s inter-satellite WPT mission.

This is a hands‑on engineering role covering the full development cycle, from early concepts and CAD design to manufacturing, assembly, testing, and system integration. You will collaborate with the Optical, Electronics, Pointing, Thermal, and Systems Engineering teams to transform technical requirements into reliable mechanical solutions.

What You Will Do
  • Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer in the design and development of mechanical systems for ORiS’s space and defence programmes.
  • Contribute to the evolution of LOONA from prototype to product, improving its mechanical architecture, robustness, manufacturability, portability, and ease of assembly.
  • Support the design of structures, mechanisms, optical mounts, enclosures, interfaces, and assemblies for the inter-satellite WPT mission.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and mechanical documentation.
  • Perform preliminary structural calculations, tolerance analyses, material selection, and mechanical sizing activities.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to support component production and resolve technical issues.
  • Participate directly in prototype assembly, mechanical integration, laboratory testing, and field trials.
  • Support functional, vibration, thermal, and environmental verification activities.
  • Collaborate with Optical, Electronics, Pointing, Thermal, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering teams.
What We Are Looking For
  • MSc in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Up to 2 years of experience in mechanical design, including relevant university, research, or personal projects.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and technical drawing.
  • Proficiency with a professional CAD tool such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or Siemens NX.
  • Basic knowledge of structural analysis, tolerancing, and mechanical sizing.
  • Hands‑on attitude and willingness to participate in assembly, testing, and field activities.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
Nice to Have
  • Experience designing prototypes or products for aerospace, defence, robotics, automotive, or industrial applications.
  • Familiarity with FEA tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent.
  • Experience with precision mechanisms, optical mounts, gimbals, pointing systems, or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing and assembly, machining, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, and rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity with lightweight structures, composites, thermal design, or space environments.
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards and space qualification processes.
  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical assembly, integration, testing, or field operations.
Why ORiS
  • Work on innovative satellite missions and advanced space technologies
  • Play a key role in shaping system‑level decisions that directly impact mission success
  • Collaborate with highly skilled engineers across multiple technical disciplines
  • Gain exposure to cutting‑edge space programs and emerging technologiesGrow professionally within a fast‑growing and ambitious space company
  • Be part of a culture driven by innovation, ownership, and technical excellence
Our Offer
  • EUR 1,000 per year in fringe benefits
  • Flexible smart working arrangements, subject to project needs
  • Stock option plan
