Baker Hughes invites students or recent graduates to join its Internship Program in Italy. The role focuses on defining plant process simulation models to optimize design and operation while integrating machine learning techniques and state‑of‑the‑art tools.

You will work with teams on projects, receive coaching and mentoring, and gain exposure to HS&E culture in a global energy company. A fixed monthly allowance of 600–1000 € gross is provided, with placement at Firenze area.

Competenze

  • Be currently enrolled or recently graduated in a Bachelor’s or Master’s level degree in Engineering, Technology, Mechanics or other STEM/business programs.
  • GPA requirement: roughly 3.0/4.0 or equivalent.
  • Strong interest and experience in tools development, numerical methods, and system modeling with MATLAB/Simulink; Aspen Hysys/Unisim or similar.
  • Experience in basic programming (e.g., Python) and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Fluent English with strong communication skills and the right to work in Italy without sponsorship.

Mansioni

  • Explore and test capabilities of commercial software in BH workflows for ROM generation and usage (ASPEN Hysys, ANSYS Twin Builder, COMSOL).
  • Support digital development programs for design and plant optimization.

You will also have the opportunity to become familiar with the Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) and culture of Baker Hughes. as well as our strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

During the internship, the candidate will define plant process simulation models (LNG, geothermal, heat pumps, etc.) with a view to optimization during the design phase (performance vs. cost) and the operational phase (e.g., performance and production), using response time acceleration techniques (surrogate, reduced models) through Machine Learning/AI algorithms.

As an Intern, you will be responsible for:
  • Explore & test the capabilities of Commercial SWs already in BH availability in Reducing Order Modeling (ROM) generation and usage, among the following: ASPEN Hysys, ANSYS Twin Builder, COMSOL.
  • Actively support and participate to Digital development programs for design and off-design plant optimization
  • Working as part of a team and communicating effectively with colleagues, engineers, and supervisors to achieve project goals, and identifying and addressing technical issues or challenges that arise during projects and proposing solutions.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and interns to interact and network with global business leaders
  • Learning software to assist with the completion of projects and tasks
  • Assisting engineers or technologists with ongoing projects by conducting research, data analysis, and providing technical support.
  • Participating in the design process, creating drawings or prototypes, and contributing to the development of new products or technologies.
  • Keeping accurate records of experiments, designs, and project-related information, and preparing reports or documentation as needed.
  • Applying Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) standards and procedures in all situations to ensure compliance is maintained
Fuel your passion
To be successful in this role you will:
  • Be currently enrolled or recently graduated in a Bachelors' or Masters' level degree in Engineering, Technology, Mechanics, other STEM-related or business-related program.
  • Have maintained a GPA grade greater than or equal to 3.0 out of 4.0 or the equivalent in your country, with focus in following matters: Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Process, Computational and/or numerical method, Control Systems
  • Strong interest combined with acquired expertise in: Tools & SW Development & Testing, Computational & numerical methods, System Modeling by Matlab, Simulink; Aspen Hysys, Unisim or similar tools for Plant/Process/System modeling
  • Strong interest combined with acquired expertise in basic programming (ex. Python)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft widely used tools: Excel, Word, Power Point; copilot.
  • Proven ability to generate reports and presentations in a clear, concise, and comprehensive manner to share results in short time to leadership
  • Be fluent in oral and written English and have effective communication skills
  • Be able to legally work in the country that you are applying in, without company sponsorship or time restrictions
