Job summary

BLACKSHAPE S.p.A. is seeking a Flight Test Engineer in Grottaglie, Italy to support planning, execution and analysis of flight test campaigns for aircraft development and certification.

The role requires knowledge of aircraft systems, test procedures, risk assessment and collaboration with pilots, engineers and maintenance teams to ensure flight test readiness and compliant reporting.

Fluent English and an engineering degree are expected; experience with EASA processes and telemetry is desirable.

Qualifications

• Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in flight test preparation, execution, data analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of aircraft systems, performance and flight test procedures.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate flight operations for flight test campaigns and production deliveries.
• Plan flight test activities, instrumentation, resources and schedules.
• Prepare and update flight test plans, procedures and test cards with traceability to requirements.
• Contribute to flight test risk assessments and define mitigations and abort criteria.
• Support test readiness reviews, verifying aircraft configuration and instrumentation.
• Liaise with Test Pilots, engineers, maintenance and ground teams.
• Support flight test execution and monitor data quality and compliance with test cards.
• Prepare flight test reports and document results, conclusions and limitations.

FLIGHT TEST ENGINEER

Location: Grottaglie, Italy

About BLACKSHAPE

BLACKSHAPE S.p.A., a manufacturer of light aircraft and aircraft systems for general aviation, is looking for a Flight Test Engineer to join its organisation.

The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, preparation, execution and analysis of flight test activities, supporting aircraft development, verification and certification in accordance with applicable airworthiness requirements and internal procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Flight Operations Coordination

• Support the coordination of flight operations related to flight test campaigns and production aircraft delivery flights.
• Assist in planning aircraft and crew availability, operational slots, airspace requirements, ground support and maintenance readiness.

Flight Test Planning

• Support the planning and coordination of flight test activities, including test objectives, aircraft configuration, instrumentation, resources and schedules.

Test Plans & Test Card Preparation

• Prepare and update flight test plans, procedures and test cards, ensuring clear test objectives and traceability to engineering and certification requirements.

Risk Assessment & Safety Preparation

• Contribute to flight test risk assessments and support the definition of mitigation measures, operational limitations and abort criteria.

Test Readiness Coordination

• Support test readiness reviews, verifying aircraft configuration, crew availability, instrumentation, documentation and maintenance status.

Crew & Team Coordination

• Liaise with Test Pilots, Flight Test Engineers, design specialists, maintenance personnel, telemetry operators and ground support teams.

Flight Test Execution

• Support and perform flight test activities on board the aircraft or from the telemetry/control room, monitoring test progress, data quality and compliance with approved test cards.

Post-Flight Debriefing & Data Review

• Participate in post-flight debriefings, review test data, verify test point completion and identify anomalies or the need for additional testing.

Flight Test Reporting

• Prepare flight test reports and technical documentation, ensuring accurate recording of results, conclusions and limitations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with Design, Certification, Airworthiness, Production, Maintenance and Quality teams throughout the flight test process.

TECHNICAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Requirements

• Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
• Experience in, or a solid technical background relevant to, flight test preparation, execution, data analysis and reporting.
• Good knowledge of aircraft systems, performance, operating limitations and flight test procedures.
• Ability to coordinate technical activities involving aircraft, flight crew, maintenance, ground support, instrumentation and documentation.
• Knowledge of safety principles and operational risk assessment processes.
• Working knowledge of EASA Part 21, Permit to Fly, flight conditions and airworthiness principles.
• Good analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Desirable Qualifications

• Flight Test Engineer qualification or rating from a recognized training organization, preferably Category 1.
• Pilot licence.
