Your role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Industrial Designer to join our Wearables team. This individual will play a key role in the design and development of smart eyewear, collaborating with product development, operations, and external technology partners to create innovative, functional, and cost-effective solutions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in industrial design, with a deep passion for user centered design and innovation, a strong understanding of product functionality, and a curiosity for blending technology with design.

Main responsibilities:

  • Design & Development :
    Support and drive industrial design processes for smart frames, from concept to final product, as part of a larger team. Create innovative, aesthetically appealing, and functional designs that integrate seamlessly with wearable technology and address brand DNA. Experiment with and injecting the latest AI tools to help take the approach to the next level.
  • Collaboration with Product Development :
    Work closely with the product development team to ensure design feasibility and functionality, meeting technical and user requirements while staying within the established target cost.
  • Coordination with Operations :
    Collaborate with operations teams to ensure that design solutions are manufacturable at scale while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Consider material selection, production processes, and cost optimization in the design process.
  • External Partner Management
    Support collaboration with external technology companies and suppliers to help incorporate advanced wearable technologies into designs, contributing to smooth integration and alignment with Luxottica’s design principles and brand identity.
  • Prototyping & Testing :
    Contribute and own the creation of prototypes. Participate in testing to validate design concepts, functionality, and user experience. Support iteration of designs based on feedback and test results.
  • Market Awareness & Trends :
    Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in industrial design, wearables, and smart technology, ensuring that Luxottica’s smart eyewear products remain at the cutting edge of the industry.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration :
    Coordinate with marketing, R&D, and engineering teams to ensure that the final design aligns with both functional specifications and brand positioning.

Main requirements:

  • Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Design Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience : 3-5 years of professional experience in industrial design, with a focus on consumer electronics, wearable technology or eyewear design. Experience working with smart products and technology integration is key, as well as user centered design methods.
  • Design Skills : Strong ability to ideate iteratively and rapidly between sketchwork and CAD models. Strong proficiency in design software (e.g., Rhino, SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite, Keyshot). A good understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and prototyping techniques. Experience in interaction design between physical and digital touchpoints is a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge : A solid capability in generating product designs around internal components, is essential. Knowledge of audio/video technologies is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving Ability : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance design aesthetics, functionality, manufacturability and cost targets.
  • Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to present ideas with impact and stimulate collaboration effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Fluency in English : Strong written and spoken English is mandatory. Additional languages are a plus.
