Director - Creative

It’s an exciting time to join Pocket FM as we shape the future of audio entertainment in India and globally. We are a leading audio OTT platform with the largest collection of OTT shows, podcasts, and audiobooks across various genres and languages. Recently launched in the UK and Germany, with plans for France and Italy, we aim to reimagine traditional radio by building an internet-scale platform that connects communities through stories and knowledge. Our mission is to empower stories and transform them into compelling entertainment, serving over 80 million listeners who spend an average of 110 minutes daily on our platform, with over 4 billion minutes streamed monthly.

This role involves partnering with top storytellers to bring their visions to life on the Pocket FM app across diverse content formats. You will collaborate with the creative team, writers, data analysts, and producers to develop concepts, conduct research, and create immersive serialized stories across genres. The ideal candidate combines a passion for entertainment and storytelling with curiosity for innovation and data-driven strategies to define content direction. Key Responsibilities:

  • Hire, onboard, and mentor Pod Leads, writers, and creative talent with support from HR and recruitment agencies.
  • Build and nurture a high-performing creative team fostering collaboration, creativity, and accountability.
  • Oversee scripted content development across genres, ensuring quality and creative vision are maintained.
  • Guide and provide feedback to writers and teams to align scripts with strategic goals.

Creative Oversight & Execution:

  • Lead original scripted series from pitch to production, ensuring quality and timelines.
  • Review and refine scripts and storylines to maintain creative integrity and audience appeal.
  • Build relationships with writers, authors, and literary agents to source new projects.
  • Generate new show ideas and identify opportunities for engagement.
  • Manage ongoing series scripts to meet deadlines and production schedules.

Collaboration with Business & Data Teams:

  • Work with business teams analyzing audience data, market trends, and test results to refine content strategies.
  • Use data insights to guide creative decisions and explore content innovations.
  • Adjust ongoing stories based on data feedback to enhance retention and performance.
  • Participate in strategy meetings to define content goals and execution plans.
  • Experiment with new formats, genres, and delivery methods to expand offerings.
  • Create scalable content creation playbooks incorporating best practices.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends to ensure Pocket FM remains innovative.

Content Performance & Optimization:

  • Monitor series performance with analytics teams, identifying improvement areas.
  • Implement strategies to boost audience retention, engagement, and growth.
  • Manage content costs and resources efficiently without compromising quality.

Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years’ experience as a Creative Director, Head Writer, or similar leadership role in content-driven organizations, especially in scripted content (podcasts, audio series, TV, film).
  • Proven ability to manage and develop creative teams.
  • Expertise in leveraging data to inform creative strategies.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with ability to build relationships across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards.
  • Deep understanding of the podcast/audio industry, with a passion for innovation and storytelling.

Location: Remote in Europe, with monthly trips to Italy or London.

Language Proficiency: Italian and English.
