Job Description:

RINA is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Junior Engineer - Offshore to join its office in Rozzano, Genoa, or Rome, Italy, within the Energy Engineering Solutions Division.

Mission

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate in offshore geotechnical engineering or marine geology. The Junior Offshore Geotechnical Engineer will participate in offshore geotechnical investigations from the initial phase through to final reporting. The candidate will join the geotechnical team onboard and will continue to follow the project during the onshore phase, including laboratory work and reporting. The role involves close collaboration with senior engineers and project managers to support site characterization in geological and geotechnical aspects.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Assist in planning and executing geotechnical site investigations at sea under the guidance of senior engineers. Participate in field surveys and inspections to assess seabed geology, sediment characteristics, and geological hazards. Support in collecting sediment samples and seabed data for analysis of engineering properties and soil stability.
  2. Data Analysis: Aid in analyzing geotechnical data collected during offshore investigations to characterize seabed conditions. Assist in interpreting geophysical survey data, including bathymetric surveys and sub-bottom profiling. Liaise with the geotechnical laboratory to prepare test schedules, follow laboratory progress, and perform quality and technical checks of certificates. Learn to use geotechnical software and modeling techniques for data analysis and soil behavior prediction.
  3. Laboratory and Reporting: Assist in preparing geotechnical investigation reports, documenting site conditions, data analysis, and recommendations. Collaborate with senior engineers to communicate findings to clients.
  4. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with project teams to integrate geotechnical considerations. Liaise with project managers, clients, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.

Education

Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Geology.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in geotechnical software tools such as PLAXIS, FLAC, GRLWEAP, or equivalent.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Effective team communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new analysis methods.
  • Prior internship or co-op experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of offshore safety regulations is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel offshore.
