Willis Global in Milan, Italy is looking for a General Manager – Freight Operations to own the country’s freight forwarding operations and lead a multi-site team. You will strengthen customer and vendor relationships while ensuring efficient, profitable, and high-quality service, reporting to the CEO for Global Forwarding Solutions at HQ.

The role requires fluency in English and Italian, 10–12 years in freight forwarding with 3–5 years in a managerial capacity, and strong knowledge of ocean

Our client, a Multi-National Supply Chain & Global Logistics Provider with an extensive network of offices across the globe are recruiting for a General Manager – Freight Operations to be based at offices in Milan and taking ownership of country operations.

The role reports directly into the CEO for Global Forwarding Solutions based at HQ.

Main Purpose of the Role:

The General Manager – Freight Operations, Italy will take full ownership of the country's freight forwarding operations, leading a multi‐site team, strengthening customer and vendor relationships, and ensuring the delivery of efficient, profitable, and high‐quality service. The role is accountable for operational performance, commercial alignment, and business growth across Italy while acting as the key liaison between local operations and the global HQ.

Responsibilities of the General Manager – Freight Operations, Italy

• Lead and develop a small freight operations team across multiple locations in Italy to ensure efficient day-to-day performance
• Coordinate with internal network offices overseas, Centre of Excellence (COE) and agents
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships and act as the escalation point for key customer issues
• Manage relationships with shipping lines, co-loaders, and other logistics vendors
• Prepare and manage competitive freight forwarding quotations in consultation with internal stakeholders
• Collaborate with the sales and commercial teams to align operational capabilities with growth goals
• Oversee P&L; and ensure profitability
• Drive business growth and operational improvements
• Participate in all audits, quality and excellence initiatives

Experience Required for the General Manager – Freight Operations, Italy

• Fluency in English & Italian is essential to be considered
• 10 - 12 years in the Freight Forwarding Industry with 3 – 5 years' experience in managerial capacity
• Strong knowledge of ocean freight, operations and rate management
• Skilled in building customer and vendor relationships
• Commercially savvy with a growth mindset
• Hands-on leader with a passion for teamwork and results
• Familiarity with Cargowise One will be advantageous
