The position involves research activities consistent with the declaration of the SSD BIOS-07/A – Biochemistry. The primary research focus will concern the study of the structure, function and evolution of biological macromolecules, with particular reference to genes, proteins and metabolic pathways of biomedical and biotechnological interest. Research activities will include integrated experimental and computational approaches, bioinformatic analysis of large-scale biological data, comparative analysis of protein sequences and structures, development and application of methods for functional prediction, use of artificial intelligence tools for the prediction of protein structures and protein-protein complexes, as well as experimental validation of functional hypotheses through the production, purification and biochemical characterization of isolated proteins. The research activity, also carried out in collaboration with leading national and international research groups, is expected to produce results suitable for publication in internationally recognized peer-reviewed scientific journals and to be disseminated through presentations at national and international conferences. Participation in national and international competitive funding schemes supporting research projects in the fields of biochemistry, bioinformatics, molecular biology and computational biology is also expected. The position will also include teaching, supplementary teaching and student support activities, contributing to the delivery of courses in the field of Biochemistry (SSD BIOS-07/A) offered in the Department’s bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. Teaching activities may include biochemistry, bioinformatics, biological data analysis, computational methods for biomolecular sciences and applications of artificial intelligence to the study of protein structure and function. Teaching activity will consist of frontal lessons, classroom exercises and computer laboratory activities, assistance with student activities, supervision of internships and theses, participation in evaluation committees for specific exams and for final degree examinations, within the range of subjects and topics envisaged by the contract. The teaching activity to be carried out as part of the courses will not exceed 120 hours, according to university regulations.
