Duferco is expanding its Corporate Innovation Team with a Forward Deployed Engineer who sits near business teams to turn AI, data, and automation into practical solutions.

You will work across energy, trading, logistics, steel, and other sectors, building AI-enabled tools, prototypes, and integrations that remove bottlenecks and improve decision-making. The role offers high autonomy and a fast-moving, collaborative environment.

We are expanding Duferco’s Corporate Innovation Team: a fast-moving team operating in a startup-like environment, backed by the stability and scale of a global diversified group.

We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer: someone who works close to business teams, understands messy operational problems, and turns AI, data, and automation into practical solutions.

You will work across domains such as energy, trading, logistics, steel, insurance, sports, and other sectors — not as an external consultant, but as part of the group itself, with the ownership and continuity of an internal product and engineering team.

You will identify opportunities, prototype AI-enabled tools, evaluate impact, and help deploy solutions that remove bottlenecks, improve decision-making, and create leverage across the business.

What You’ll Do

Design and build AI-enabled solutions that make the organization faster and smarter:

• AI applications, agents, and automation workflows for real business processes


• Data analysis, decision-support tools, and internal analytics workflows


• Retrieval, document intelligence, structured outputs, and knowledge systems


• Prototypes that test whether AI can create real operational value


• Integrations with internal tools, databases, APIs, documents, and third-party systems


• Evaluation and monitoring approaches to understand whether AI systems are working as intended

You’ll work directly with business and technical teams to understand problems, identify opportunities, prototype solutions, measure impact, and iterate — not just execute predefined specs.

You’re Probably a Fit If

• You have hands-on experience applying AI, machine learning, data science, or analytics to real business problems.


• You enjoy working close to users and business teams, understanding how work actually happens, and turning messy problems into useful AI-enabled solutions.


• You are comfortable working with LLMs, modern AI APIs, structured and unstructured data, and know how to evaluate whether an AI solution is actually useful.


• You can explore a dataset, identify patterns or opportunities, prototype a solution, and communicate trade-offs clearly.


• You are pragmatic about AI: excited by what it can do, but aware of its limitations, failure modes, and the importance of good evaluation.


• You have enough software engineering ability to build reliable prototypes, integrations, automations, or internal tools, preferably using Python.

Experience with RAG systems, vector databases, agent frameworks, workflow automation, forecasting, optimization, BI tools, Postgres, AWS, or complex operational domains is a strong plus.

You do not need experience with every technology we use. Curiosity, analytical thinking, adaptability, and the ability to turn AI into practical business impact matter much more.
