FAO invites applications for a Fishery Officer to support global policy processes, data analysis, and technical services within the NFIPI team. You will coordinate inputs to UN dialogues, promote best practices, and contribute to capacity development on an international scale.

Key requirements include a Master’s degree in marine/fisheries sciences or related fields, at least five years of experience, and English—plus knowledge of another FAO official language.

Competenze

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in marine, fisheries or aquaculture science or management, ocean governance, or related disciplines.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in marine, fisheries or aquaculture science, management or policy.
  • Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.

  • Research and analyze fisheries and aquaculture data and policy issues to support programmes and publications.
  • Produce technical data, statistics, and reports; contribute to technical documents and web content.
  • Provide technical and analytical services for studies and assessments; backstop field projects.
  • Develop or improve technical, statistical, analytical tools, databases, and indicators.
  • Participate in or lead cross‑functional teams; collaborate with divisions and committees.
  • Support capacity development activities including learning materials and online tools.

  • Contribute to strategic NFIPI documents and UN/global policy inputs.
  • Coordinate divisional engagement in UN conferences and regional networks.
  • Assist the Secretariat for the Regional Fisheries Body Secretariats' Network.
  • Perform other duties to support NFIPI as needed.

As Fishery Officer you contribute to FAO’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Division by supporting global policy processes, data analysis, and technical services. You will work with the NFIPI team to coordinate inputs to UN and global policy dialogues and to promote best practices in fisheries and aquaculture. You’ll engage with cross‑divisional teams, support capacity development, and help inform high‑level events and negotiations. The role offers a chance to impact policy, science, and sustainable management at an international scale.
