The Binding Site part of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. seeks a Field Service Engineer for South Italy to provide top-notch service and support for our Optilite® system. This position aims to boost patient outcomes in multiple myeloma through technical expertise and dedication.

Environment: Laboratory setting, strong odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products, etc.), and will work with hazardous/toxic materials. Work schedule is standard (Mon-Fri).

Responsibilities
  • Join a multifaceted and proficient team that supports customers in efficiently completing their vital clinical tasks using the Optilite® systems.
  • Ensure successful installation, system integration, validation, scheduled maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, and repair of the Optilite® system and associated software.
  • Provide timely technical support to customers and colleagues, including remote access support and multi-functional technical investigation work, diagnosing faults and restoring full system functionality.
  • Participate in technical discussions on the product – both hardware and software.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) visits within required timeframes.
  • Complete service reports in Service CRM, ensuring they are fully and accurately completed.
  • Maintain accurate records of spare parts, ensure proper usage, and support spare part stock checks and reconciliation.
  • Update instruments at customer laboratories with software and data management upgrades as needed.
  • Provide feedback to global product teams on instrument reliability and quality.
  • Offer training courses on installation and maintenance to end-users.
  • Conduct preliminary visits to laboratories to agree on instrumentation placement, installation sites, and any hydraulic/electric/logistic work needed.
  • Support interfacing LIS with the main company management tools.
Keys to Success (Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in a scientific or engineering field (e.g., clinical/research laboratories, electronics, biotechnology, medical devices).
  • IT skills for laboratory middleware management.
  • Strong technical competence and problem-solving abilities.
  • Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English and Italian – both written and verbal.
  • Availability to travel at short notice and occasionally work weekends/unsociable hours (75–85% in the field).
  • Full driving license.
