In particular, the FBK Centrefor Sensors and Devices (FBK-SD) ( https://www.fbk.eu/en/sensors-devices/ ) is an applied research centre that operates in the following scientific and technological areas: quantum technologies, detectors, microsystems and integrated systems. The FBK-SD has extremely advanced technical know-how in innovative device design and fabrication technologies as material and device characterization. The strategic mission of the FBK-SD is scientific excellence combined with the ability to exploit research results. The innovation model is open to collaboration in national and international expertise networks.

Workplace Description

The available position is in the Materials and Topologies for Sensors and Devices (MTSD) Unit of FBK-SD. Among other tasks, MTSD carries out R&D and Service activities based on spectroscopy and spectrometry characterization, silicon devices and in wide band gap semiconductors to develop – also quantum - optical devices. The activities are carried out in strict collaboration with the nanofabrication, the integrated photonics, and the superconductive

teams of FBK-SD. MTSD is active on several projects focused on photon-based quantum, superconductive device sensor materials and nano technologies.

Background information and description of research projects

This position is offeredwithin the IPCEI ME/CT project.

In the IPCEI ME/CT project, FBK intends to significantly expand and improve its manufacturing and integration facilities to achieve high-level and reliable heterogeneous production capabilities to maximize research and competitiveness in the market. In IPCEI ME 1, FBK is developing the 3D integration platform for SiPM and SPAD technologies. Exploiting the results of IPCEI ME 1, the project will mainly work on integrating new materials (Silicon Carbide & Germanium-on-Silicon) and hetero-integration to extend the capabilities of already established silicon platforms. One development of the SiC-based material platform will also focus on the development, fabrication and characterization of devices based on wide-band gap semiconductors.
