Overview

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through its Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.

The Resource Mobilization and Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSR) leads and coordinates the mobilization of voluntary contributions (currently 70 percent of FAO’s budget) in support of the Organization’s strategic priorities. PSR manages FAO’s relations with resource partners, strategically matching partners’ interests to those of the Organization, and supports the negotiation of approximately 800 trust fund agreements per year. It mounts marketing analysis and campaigns around global development opportunities, provides market and business intelligence and positioning services to management as well as resource mobilization capacity development to decentralized and headquarters offices. PSR also oversees and coordinates results reporting to ensure accountability to resource partners.

This UNV assignment is located in the Director’s office and reports to the Deputy Director of PSR.

Context

This UNV assignment is located in the Directors office and reports to the Deputy Director of PSR.

Key Responsibilities

• Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the UN Volunteer Resource Mobilization Officer will :
• Support the Division in mapping out and improving PSR business processes as needed, and ensure horizontal coordination on corporate issues;
• Coordinate and provide quality assurance of briefs, inputs to briefs and other key documentation in support of the daily activities of the Deputy Director;
• Enhance the knowledge management system of the unit, including by further developing the PSR Induction Package and other SOPs;
• Coordinate special projects and assignments on behalf of the Deputy Director;
• Support PSR Team Leaders with resource partner liaison tasks upon request;
• Organize and facilitate informal and formal meetings with resource partners;
• Prepare briefing documents and talking points for senior level management meetings with resource partners;
• Support the Organization’s efforts to ensure partner visibility;
• Ensure support to headquarters teams and Decentralized Offices to resource mobilization efforts and initiatives in line with defined corporate priorities;
• Identify and share with relevant offices of FAO, thematic and geographic priorities and new funding opportunities with resource partners;
• Act as liaison point for cooperation with other FAO divisions, as needed;
• Coordinate work with other Officers in the Unit as well as in the Division and beyond to ensure adequate flow of information and to align activities.

Required Skills and Experience

• At least 5 years professional work experience, at the national and / or international level; experience working in the UN or other international development organization is required.
• Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
• Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
• Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications;
• Familiarity with database management and office technology equipment;
• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
• Have affinity with or interest in FAO’s work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System;
• Working knowledge of a second UN language is required

Living Conditions

The UN Volunteer will be based in Rome, Italy where the FAO headquarters is located. Currently, there are no direct threats to UN personnel or assets within the country. It is the incumbent’s responsibility to comply with immigration, customs and health requirements while entering / exiting the country. The incumbent is responsible for finding and securing their own accommodation. Rome is a cosmopolitan metropolis with modern amenities, cultural attractions, public transportation, restaurants and nightlife.

UN Volunteer entitlements and allowances: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service. Contingent on specific eligibility criteria, location of the volunteer assignment and contractual type and category, the payment of allowances will begin from the date of Commencement of Service. Please note that the amounts can vary according to fluctuations of the monthly post adjustment.

Monthly Living Allowance (Per month) : USD

Entry lump sum (one-time payment) : USD 4000

Exit allowance (for each month served, paid on completion of contract) : $225

Family allowance : 250 per month for one dependent. 450 per month for two or more dependents

Medical and life insurance : Cigna Private Insurance – Comprehensive coverage for health, life and malicious acts for the UN Volunteer and health insurance coverage

Leave entitlements :

Annual leave : 2.5 days accrued per calendar month

Certified sick leave : UN Volunteers are entitled to up to 30 days of certified sick leave based on a 12-month cycle. This amount is reset every 12-month cycle.

Uncertified sick leave : 7 days for 12 months and 4 days for shorter assignments

Learning leave : 10 working days per consecutive 12 months (shorter assignments are prorated)

Maternity Leave : 16 weeks

Paternity Leave : 10 days
