Descrizione del lavoro

Work Context

The European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) is a French-Italian consortium founded by INFN and CNRS to foster European collaboration in gravitational wave research. It hosts and operates the Virgo detector, a 3 km-long laser interferometer. Virgo, along with the two LIGO detectors in the US, are the largest and most sensitive gravitational-wave detectors in the world. The collaboration involves around 850 members from 42 institutions across 16 countries. EGO's administration is divided into two departments: Area 1 (Human Resources, Finance and EU Accountability, Outreach & Communication, User Office) and Area 2 (Tenders and Procurement, Legal Affairs, EU Projects, External Relations). The Head of Area 1 also serves as the 'Responsabile della Prevenzione della Corruzione e della Trasparenza (RPCT)'. The position is for the Head of Department AD1, with potential interim responsibilities for AD2. The Director may appoint an Administrative Deputy Director.

EGO encourages applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of gender, disability, marital or parental status, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.

Mission

The EGO Consortium may hire personnel at levels and salaries up to 10% above the current employee range, based on specific needs. We are seeking a candidate for the position of Head of Department AD1, who may also temporarily assume responsibilities for AD2. The successful candidate, as part of the EGO Directorate, will contribute to policy development and strategic planning, overseeing financial planning, accounting, treasury, and human resources.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Providing administrative, operational, and financial support to the organization.
  2. Ensuring efficient and effective operations within the Directorate in accordance with regulations, policies, objectives, strategy, and business plans.
  3. Developing and implementing the overall financial strategy at EGO and informing the EGO Council of financial implications of decisions and developments.
  4. Establishing and maintaining relationships with funding institutions, external auditors, and other external entities.
Selection Procedure

Only candidates meeting the essential qualifications will proceed to the selection process. A Selection Board, appointed by the Director, will evaluate applications based on predefined criteria. The first phase involves reviewing application forms and documents. Candidates who meet the minimum score will advance to the interview phase, during which language skills in English and Italian, as well as proficiency with administrative and budgeting software, will be assessed.
