Altus Partners has been retained by a market-leading US PE-backed retail business to recruit an Accounting Director based in Milan.

This is a key strategic role offering full ownership and autonomy to develop internal accounting processes and promote best practices across the region.

The role emphasizes ensuring adherence to US GAAP reporting standards and SOX compliance within the group.

The European division of this US brand generates revenues of approximately €1bn with an EBITDA of €200m.

The position is based in Central Milan, with flexible working arrangements, including 2 days per week in the office.

THE ROLE:

This role focuses on the ongoing development and efficiency of internal accounting processes across the region.

Key responsibilities:

1. Reporting directly to the European Finance Director, review current processes and implement plans to enhance internal controls and procedures.
2. Document internal processes and best practices for regional use.
3. Review monthly end accounts before submission to the US.
4. Analyze balance sheet and P&L trends, providing insights and commentary.
5. Support US GAAP and SOX audits across the region.
6. Drive the adoption of new accounting policies and procedures.
7. Lead ad hoc projects and finance transformation initiatives.
8. Support and develop a team of four, remaining hands-on and detail-oriented.

The role requires regional travel based on business needs.

THE REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience with US GAAP and SOX compliance.
• Proven track record in developing core accounting processes and procedures.
• Leadership experience managing teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
• Exposure to large-cap international business environments.
