About the Role

The Environmental Manager provides environmental support to production and corporate personnel. Develops corporate environmental, safety, and health programs and objectives and coordinates safety training programs. Monitors environmental, safety, and health regulations and provides technical support to plant and administrative staff to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines. Develops, implements and maintains ISO14001 facility certification.

What You Will Do

• Provides technical environmental, safety, and health support and information to production and corporate personnel.
• Prepares and updates written environmental, safety, and health programs and policies.
• Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
• Develops annual company environmental, safety, and health KPI targets.
• Participates in new product/process reviews, including hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
• Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize environmental, safety, and occupational health hazards.
• Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Maintains a corporate environmental and safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
• Promotes environmental, safety, and health awareness through internal company communications and specific training programs.
• Serves as a member of the environmental, health and safety steering committee.
• Oversees facility compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Environmental regulations pertain to, but are not limited to, the following aspects: solid waste, hazardous waste, petroleum storage, material releases, storm water, air releases, wastewater, community right-to-know, any site-specific regulations from local ordinances, etc.
• Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for environmental, safety, and health considerations.
• Conduct safety buy-off of new equipment installs.
• Understands federal and state environmental, occupational safety, and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
• Provides technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, occupational safety, and health regulations.
• Advises manufacturing plants and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the plant must comply.
• Audits practices and records of manufacturing operations to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state environmental, occupational safety and health regulations.
• Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker's compensation claims.
• Responsible for training and re-training on work related injury management protocol as needed; works with a claims team to assure appropriate management of work-related injuries/illnesses.
• Coordinates with workers compensation claims' team individual action plans to resolution, return-to-work efforts, communicates claim action with claimant and client.as needed.
• Reviews plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports. Follow up as necessary.
• Reviews injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary. Meets with management monthly to review any injuries, identify any trends, recommend countermeasures and supports action plans.
• Develops tools and training to prevent or minimize work-related injuries, and to maintain a safe work environment.
• Uses ergonomic guidelines to address current manufacturing injury concerns and future model planning.
• Provides Industrial Hygiene activities such as air and noise sampling, portable instruments calibration and monitors results to ensure a healthful working environment.
• Performs all required actions to maintain compliance with all environmental regulations that apply to the facility. These actions may be required by federal, state, and/or local regulations, local ordinances, site-specific permits, consent orders, and any other legal instrument.
• Coordinates the disposal of all waste materials for the facility including the proper evaluation and documentation of any waste characterizations that provides the basis for proper disposal.
• Participates or leads any site-specific environmental training that may be required of onsite personnel.
• Maintains all environmental permits that apply to the facility, including the timely submittal of any applications, permit modifications, or any other permit actions required to maintain compliance.
• Coordinates with onsite Emergency Response Teams to ensure that they are aware of all hazardous materials/waste that are present onsite including drills.
• Reviews, approves, and maintains safety data sheets electronically on a database that supports the site's compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Supervises and provides leadership, coaching, guidance, training, and staff development; interviews and selects unit employees; plans and evaluates employee performance; recommends merit increases, transfers, and promotions; counsels and disciplines employees as necessary; recommends termination when appropriate; monitors time and attendance of subordinates and approves time sheets.
• Supports organizational and team annual goals that relate to corporate KPIs and tracking these goals for each phase of a project; participates heavily in the development, launch, and upkeep of the AESC Production Management System.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic. Qualifications

What You Need

• Title V Air Permit - compliance/conditions (e.g., CFC inventory logs, RICE MACT generator data logs, chemical tracking)
• RCRA - compliance with hazardous waste regulations pertaining to Large Quantity Generators (LQGs) and management of hazardous waste tank systems
• EPCRA - compliance with reporting requirements for industrial facilities (e.g., Tier 2 Report, Toxic Release Inventory Reports)
• ISO 14001 - Familiar with the ISO Environmental Management System conformance requirements
• ISO 50001 - Familiar with ISO Energy Management System conformance requirements to conserve resources and tackle climate change.
• Bachelor's degree in safety science, engineering or industrial engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting safety, health, and environmental operations in a manufacturing/production environment.
• Extensive knowledge of State and Federal safety standards. A working knowledge of ergonomic standards and evaluation tools; working knowledge of the company manufacturing processes.
• Able to work cross-functionally with staff in Operations, Maintenance, Production, Engineering, Quality, Human Resources and Research and Development.
• Understands and is experienced in KY workers compensation statues and case law.
• Understands and is experienced in KY claims and case management.
• Ensure workers compensation process is performed accurately with all team members.
• Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
• Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)

What is "Nice to Have"?

• CSP/CIH/CHMM certification preferred.
• HAZWOPER 24 hour certified.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certified; trainer certification preferred.
• Knowledge of chemical manufacturing operations is a plus.
