How the role will make an impact

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Director is responsible for leading EHS initiatives across Europe. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, national, and EU regulations. The EHS Director will manage a team of EHS managers and foster a culture of safety and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to develop and implement programs, plans, and procedures for meeting and exceeding EHS goals, including compliance with UK and EU regulations, such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) guidelines.
  • Provide technical and professional leadership regarding applicable EHS regulations and issues throughout European and international operations and ensure regulatory compliance via established auditing processes and risk analysis.
  • Drive hazard assessment activities, including Process Hazard Analysis and Job Safety Analysis, in collaboration with EHS and site leadership.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement comprehensive Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Process Safety programs and policies, including necessary training.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and testing of emergency response plans, supporting regional EHS Managers in keeping them up-to-date and effective.
  • Liaise with all functional areas within the company to ensure safety, physical, environmental, and asset conservation issues are fully understood and addressed.
  • Travel between 25% and 50% to provide on-site support and engagement with EHS team members.

Education and Experience

  • Education in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, industrial engineering, or related discipline (such as a NEBOSH Diploma - UK) preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in EHS within a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive EHS leadership experience in a multinational or regional role in manufacturing.
  • Deep understanding of European EHS regulations and standards.
  • Strategic thinking, leadership, and strong partnerships with operational leaders.
