Embedded Linux Consultant (System Image Rebuild for Domotz Box Platform)

About the Project: Domotz seeks an experienced Embedded Linux Consultant to rebuild and modernize the system image for the Domotz Box platform, which includes around 20,000 deployed units.

Responsibilities:

1. Analyze the current system image, hardware platform, and deployment constraints.
2. Design and implement a new, stable, maintainable system image based on an updated Linux kernel and supported OS.
3. Ensure backward compatibility and plan smooth transition strategies.
4. Collaborate with internal teams (Network Collector, DevOps) for deployment and upgrades.
5. Document build procedures and operational guides.
6. Support planning and validation of OTA (Over-The-Air) mass upgrade strategies.
7. Advise on best practices for maintenance and security patching.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Proven expertise in embedded Linux system development and maintenance.
• Deep understanding of bootloaders, kernel building, OS image creation, and OTA mechanisms.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills at system and kernel level.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience migrating devices from legacy to modern platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Ubuntu Core platforms (16, 20, 22).
• Familiarity with Ubuntu Core architecture and snap packages.
• Knowledge of ARM architecture and device-level Linux optimizations.
• Experience with large-scale IoT or embedded device fleets.
• Rebuilt and validated system images for mass deployment.
• Documented build processes.
• Recommendations for OTA upgrades and risk mitigation.
• Support during rollout testing and early production phases (optional).

This is a full-time, fully remote role with flexibility. The project duration is estimated between 1 to 4 months.
