Job Description:
The role is within the Flight Control Systems (FCS) department, which is a part of the Aircraft System Integration area within the Engineering Directorate. The purpose of the role is to coordinate and carry out System Safety activities within the scope of Flight Control System development.
Areas of responsibility include:
- Provide support to FCS Product System Engineering units with responsibility for authoring or contributing to the following:
- Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)
- System Safety Analyses (pSSAs, SSAs)
- Common Mode Analyses (CMAs)
- System and subsystems safety requirements definition and validation
- System and subsystems architectures definition and validation for safety aspects
- Contribute to the improvement and digitalization of FCS safety processes
- Review and approval of external suppliers' safety documentation (including FMEAs, FMESs)
- Support technical design reviews
- Support discussions with certification authorities
Education & Experience:
- BS or MS Degree in any of the following engineering subjects: Electrical, Electronic, Automation, Control Systems, Aerospace
- Previous Experience (from 2 to 5 years) in Systems Safety Engineering for Complex Safety Critical Systems in Aeronautic, Space, Railway, Automotive, or similar industries
- Fluent in English; Italian language knowledge would be a plus
Essential:
- Working knowledge in safety analysis (FHA, pSSA, and SSA) of complex and safety-critical systems
- Working knowledge of the Systems Engineering life-cycle
- Experience in creating and editing systems documentation, e.g., Requirement Specifications, Interface Control Documents, System/Sub-System Definition Documents, Test Schedules/Reports, etc.
- Ability to interface with external suppliers at the technical level
- Proactive approach on projects and in dealing with day-to-day tasks
- Good analytical skills
- Experience in planning and managing tasks
- Ability to interface effectively with multi-functional teams and with colleagues at all levels
Desirable:
- Knowledge of systems engineering tools and methodologies for requirements management and data analysis, e.g., Matlab, Simulink, IBM Rational DOORS, CM tools
- Working knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering tools and methodologies for system architecture definition and simulation e.g., Cameo MagicDraw, IBM Rhapsody, Capella or equivalent
- Working knowledge of tools and methodologies for RAMS analysis e.g., Reliability Workbench FaulTree+
- Working knowledge of ARP4754, ARP4761 recommended practices
- Familiar with the aeronautical regulations (particularly CS29) and DO254 and/or DO178 standards, as well as general EASA and FAA regulations
- INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification or equivalent
