Job summary

NHOA Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Design Engineering team in Milan, hybrid work arrangement. You will contribute to the design and engineering of Battery Energy Storage Systems from proposals to detailed design and testing, collaborating with R&D and project teams to ensure seamless system integration.

The role requires MSc in Electrical Engineering, 3+ years' MV/LV design experience, and proficiency with industry tools.

Qualifications

• MSc in Electrical Engineering is required.
• At least 3 years of experience in electrical design and engineering of MV/LV power generation and distribution systems.
• Proficiency with electrical engineering software (ETAP, EPLAN, Integra, Cableizer, Dehn or Dialux).
• Good knowledge of 2D CAD tools (AutoCAD, DraftSight or similar).
• Experience with suppliers and managing technical interfaces.
• Fluency in English and Italian.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical systems for BESS projects, including AC/DC systems, MV and LV distribution, auxiliary systems and grounding.
• Contribute to HV substations and grid connection infrastructure design.
• Perform electrical calculations and studies (cable sizing, short‑circuit, protection coordination, arc flash).
• Prepare electrical drawings and documentation using standard tools.

Position

NHOA Energy is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Design Engineering team! In this role, you will contribute to the design and engineering of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), working on innovative projects that support the energy transition. You will be involved throughout the engineering process, from product development and technical proposals to detailed design, testing and project execution, collaborating with R&D, Project Execution and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

What you’ll do

• Design and develop electrical systems for BESS projects, including AC/DC systems, MV and LV distribution, auxiliary systems and grounding.
• Contribute to the design of HV substations and grid connection infrastructure.
• Perform electrical calculations and studies, including cable sizing, short‑circuit analysis, protection coordination and arc flash assessments.
• Prepare electrical drawings, single‑line diagrams, wiring diagrams and technical documentation using industry‑standard engineering tools.
• Support technical proposals, product development and project execution, from detailed engineering to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
• Collaborate with R&D, Mechanical, Software and Control teams to ensure seamless system integration.
• Interface with suppliers, contractors and consultants, providing technical support during manufacturing, installation and site activities.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal engineering standards, design tools and best practices.

Requirements

• MSc in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience in electrical design and engineering of MV/LV power generation and distribution systems.
• Solid knowledge of international electrical standards, regulations and industry practices.
• Proficiency in electrical engineering software such as ETAP, EPLAN, Integra, Cableizer, Dehn or Dialux.
• Good knowledge of 2D CAD tools (AutoCAD, DraftSight or similar).
• Experience working with suppliers and managing technical interfaces.
• Good communication skills in both English and Italian.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Availability for occasional short business trips, mainly within Italy (typically less than one week).

Nice to have

• Experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or renewable energy projects.
• Familiarity with HV substations, grid connection systems and electrical protection studies.
• Experience supporting electrical equipment manufacturing, FAT or on‑site installation activities.
