What we’re looking for

Technical Support Office (TSO) provides a worldwide, plan approval service to shipbuilders, ship owners, and manufacturers.

The role involves appraising marine electrical and control design aspects according to international standards and class rules, using procedures, experience, and knowledge. This includes plans for new buildings, conversions, and existing vessels, providing technical support to designers and operators of ships and marine platforms.

The successful candidate will be based at the LR Trieste Office, Italy, with consideration for alternative locations depending on circumstances.

The role:

  • Working within the Global Electrical & Control Discipline team to carry out design appraisal and consultancy against Class Rules and statutory codes, mainly focusing on marine electrical/automation/electronic systems for ships, with opportunities to work on other ship types and offshore projects.
  • Approving electrical and control equipment against statutory codes and Class Rules, including Type Approval activities.
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Providing technical advice to clients globally, including designers, shipyards, and surveyors.
  • Contributing to Rule Development Projects to keep rules updated with industry innovations.
  • Participating in bid processes by estimating time and defining scope.
  • Producing deliverables within agreed parameters and reviewing colleagues' work when needed.
  • Ensuring client satisfaction and identifying new opportunities.
  • Following internal procedures, legislation, and standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by managers.

What you bring

  • A degree in Electrical, Electronic/Telecommunication, Marine Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in electrical/control design and applying Class Rules, with offshore or naval experience advantageous. Less experienced candidates may be considered for lower roles.
  • Membership in a professional institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in English, including technical report writing.
  • Understanding of Classification Society responsibilities and interface with Class Rules and Regulations.
