HHLA PLT Italy is a multipurpose maritime terminal started in 2021, located in the middle of the fast-growing North Adriatic market. Here, the Expansion Project Team is planning and executing a phased project to integrate the current facility into a fully automated, state-of-the-art container terminal, utilizing advanced technologies and expertise.

The Equipment Engineer plays a critical role within the Asset team, overseeing the ordering, delivery, testing, and commissioning of equipment such as ship-to-shore cranes (STS), automated guided vehicles (AGV), automated rail-mounted gantry cranes (ARMG), etc., according to project requirements. The engineer ensures all equipment arrives on time, within budget, with the right quality, and meets operational and automation standards.

What you can expect
  • Plan, organize, and direct equipment procurement, delivery, testing, and commissioning activities to meet project scope and schedule.
  • Analyze requirements to determine suitable equipment solutions that meet performance criteria.
  • Provide solutions to mitigate project schedule delays.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and safety standards.
  • Promote a safety culture in line with company standards.
  • Oversee and coordinate with equipment suppliers and headquarters.
  • Ensure timely procurement within project constraints.
  • Monitor and report progress, quality, risks, and opportunities to management.
  • Document all changes to engineering deliverables and scope.
  • Contribute to budget management and QA/QC protocols.
  • Collaborate with civil, automation, IT teams, and third parties for integrated delivery.
  • Manage procurement schedules and secure necessary approvals.
  • Implement health, safety, and environmental protocols.
What you bring to the table

We seek an experienced equipment engineer with a focus on large port equipment projects, maintaining high safety and technical standards, with expertise in procurement, testing, and commissioning.

The role requires proactive communication, problem-solving skills, and coordination with stakeholders, suppliers, and third parties.

  • Proficiency in English; Italian and German are a plus.
  • Experience managing large port equipment projects (>€50 million).
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Strong decision-making, execution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Client-focused and service-oriented.
  • Hands-on, professional attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Trustworthy with meticulous record-keeping.
  • BSc or diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automation, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
  • Project management certification is an asset.

The ideal candidate will have a valid EU work permit and be willing to relocate to Trieste on short notice.
