Summary :

As a Senior Services Mechanical Engineer, you will act as the mechanical engineering leader for the retrofits of SRU (slip ring units used for large ship propulsion) and MCR (motorized cable reels used for electrified port cranes), as well as other Cavotec product upgrades or adaptations. You will ensure that design modifications meet the functional design criteria of the products and that projects are executed in accordance with technical specifications, standards, and norms to deliver safe, high-quality products. You will also support the Sales teams during tendering with technical specifications and preliminary designs.

The Role :

1. Provide design and re-engineering capabilities to repair, refurbish, or upgrade Cavotec assets (installed base).
2. Revise drawings and bills of material (BOM) using Cavotec standard tools and documentation management systems.
3. Define and implement reliable technical solutions suitable for use.
4. Create detailed drawings and implement changes to existing designs, using SolidWorks 3D modeling software.
5. Select proper components according to manufacturer instructions and best practices.
6. Create and store drawings and 3D models electronically in the document vault.
7. Create and implement part numbers and BOMs in the company ERP system.
8. Identify technical solutions to replace obsolete components.
9. Support resolution of technical issues according to service requirements.
10. Assist sub-suppliers or centers of excellence in production processes.
11. Prepare technical instructions and documentation for Field Service Technicians and customers for repairs, refurbishments, or upgrades.
12. Revise operation and maintenance manuals with latest learnings.
13. Support global service product engineers in preparing service instructions for Field Service Technicians.
14. Assist in claim management and root cause analysis.
15. Lead engineering efforts for retrofit or upgrade solutions at site, supervising installations at ports or ships.
16. Coordinate with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure work is performed according to requirements and schedule.
17. Provide mechanical technical input to sales and review proposals based on customer specifications.
18. Support project planning, purchasing, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and delivery.
19. Act as the technical lead for retrofit/upgrade solutions, working with customers and seeking feedback for continuous improvement.
20. Evaluate supplier proposals technically.
21. Train other field service technicians to develop expertise in Cavotec retrofitting.

Requirements :

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in design and/or supervision of retrofit works.
• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
• Knowledge of ports & maritime regulations and requirements.
• Computer skills; proficiency in CAD design, especially SolidWorks 3D modeling software.
• Experience supervising subcontractors.
• Knowledge of delivering integrated solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Fluent in English and Italian.
