The Strategic Buyer is responsible for setting and developing the strategy for a specific group or category and managing the associated suppliers. This includes overseeing the entire external supply chain from the supplier to production and actively searching for optimization potential to reduce procurement costs, ensuring procurement processes align with the project’s needs and goals.
Task & Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate negotiations for all major project purchases in defined commodities, utilizing available department resources and working within the business unit.
- Lead and direct the operational buyer, responsible for inventory levels within the commodity group/category.
- Develop and enforce supplier contracts (NDA, quality agreements, business agreements, etc.) in an international environment with service and development partners.
- Manage the supplier portfolio, including market analysis, benchmarking, and price negotiations.
- Execute RFQs, conduct purchase price analysis, and negotiate, including supplier evaluation.
- Achieve targets such as procurement savings and inventory management for the commodity group/category.
- Perform supplier audits in collaboration with RA/QA.
- Create and evaluate monthly KPIs and implement improvement measures.
- Conduct annual risk analyses of key suppliers.
- Support manufacturing plants in resolving supplier issues to meet delivery targets.
- Solve complex complaints related to suppliers and delivery problems.
- Assist R&D in launching new products with existing or new suppliers.
- Maintain key supplier and material master data.
- Strive for internal process improvements and best practices.
- Ensure suppliers are prepared for production and handle all deliverables and system updates.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies and standards.
- Create and implement standards to guide improvement programs.
- Coordinate with project management to review and approve supplier operation plans.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or related fields.
Skills & Experience
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, even in challenging situations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP ERP system, purchasing processes, negotiation strategies, and data analysis.
- Fluent in English, capable of communicating at all organizational levels.
- Problem-solving skills, proactive attitude, energy, interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to multitask.
- Cooperative, diplomatic, flexible, ambitious, and enthusiastic attitude.
- Willingness to travel as required.
Experience & Background
- At least 3 years managing a supplier portfolio or a technical product group in a manufacturing company.
- Experience managing international projects.
- Experience working in an international company.
- Previous purchasing experience of complex technical products such as pumps, fans, pneumatic components, etc.
