We seek a Surface & Tribology Technology Expert to be part of our core technical team, the Technology Office, for new automotive initiatives. This highly technical role involves overcoming complex challenges to enhance automotive products, leading surface and tribology knowledge, and collaborating globally with colleagues, customers, and industry experts.

The role requires expertise in surface quality specification, innovation support, and securing advanced technologies. The Technology Office comprises specialists in material science, tribology, manufacturing processes, life prediction, NVH & diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead development of tribology and lubrication testing methodologies.
2. Guide surface topography optimization for longevity, friction, and wear.
3. Support coating, steel, and lubricant testing definitions.
4. Develop electrical excitation testing methods for rolling contact and define equipment.
5. Research failure modes such as White Etching Cracks.
6. Train engineering teams on surface technology and testing.
7. Assist in failure analysis and problem-solving.
8. Optimize tribological test methods and expand tribology expertise.
9. Manage the tribology and surface technology roadmap aligned with numerical tribology strategies.
10. Coordinate external collaborations on advanced surface testing.

Requirements

• MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Tribology, or related fields.
• Advanced knowledge of grease lubrication and modeling techniques.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes affecting surface topography.
• Experience in lubricant selection, specifications, and tribology research.
• Ability to connect customer needs with R&D activities.
• Practical experience with code development (Python, Matlab, etc.) for data analysis.
• Leadership and mentorship skills.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.

Additional Information

This position is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, on a local contract. Other SKF Automotive sites in EMEA, such as Airasca (Italy), Schweinfurt (Germany), or Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire (France), may also be considered.
