We are looking for a Communication System Engineer.

Task description:

1. Support the design phases by defining the functional and performance requirements of uW Instruments and communication subsystems through analysis and assessment, focusing on uW Instruments (P/L) and Communication Systems (e.g., Radiometers, P/L Data Handling and Transmission systems, Radar systems).
2. Develop and maintain models and software tools for simulating the functionalities and main performances of Payloads and Subsystems.
3. Establish, implement, and maintain RF budgets.
4. Define related command and control interfaces.
5. Develop, implement, and maintain Link Budgets as applicable.
6. Contribute to defining Payloads or Subsystem architecture.
7. Define, implement, and maintain interfaces and budgets related to Data Handling, Electrical, and RF systems.
8. Support technical monitoring and review of relevant equipment, sub-assemblies, and suppliers, both internal and external.
9. During verification and validation phases, assess and evaluate Payload and Subsystem functionalities and performance based on test results.
10. Assist as a System and Verification Engineer during relevant Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) campaigns.
11. Participate in meetings and reviews with internal and external customers.
12. Prepare technical documents and presentations.
13. Contribute to program reports and minutes of meetings.
14. Ensure compliance with Italian Defense National Authority Rules, including security clearance eligibility.

Required Background:

• Master’s degree in Electronic or Telecommunication Engineering.
• Experience in communication systems, especially in space applications.
• Knowledge of digital and RF electronics for data handling, processing, and wide-band communication, TT&C.
• Familiarity with main onboard data interface buses: MIL 1553 B, CAN, SpaceWire, High-Speed Serial Links (e.g., WizardLink).
• Understanding of radio communication protocols, information theory, advanced coding, and modulation schemes (e.g., Turbo coding, SCCC, DVB-S2).
• Experience in modeling/simulation of HPA non-linearity and compensation algorithms in DSP for high-order modulation schemes.
• Modeling of frequency response impairments and equalization techniques.
• Modeling atmospheric propagation effects (loss, de-polarization, cross-polarization).
• Knowledge of CCSDS protocols for space data links and data compression techniques.
• Proficiency in Matlab, programming languages (e.g., C, Visual Basic), and MS Office.
• Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
• Eligibility for security clearance under Italian Defense National Authority Rules.
