About the Role

As a Senior System and Architecture Engineer at SIAE MICROELETTRONICA, you will play a pivotal role in analyzing customer requirements and translating them into successful products. Your work will ensure alignment with customer needs while considering the overall network solution management system.

You will focus on Packet Aggregation and Switching within Optical Networks, working with devices that handle 1 to 100 Gb Ethernet. These devices are part of an Optical Transport Node, integrating DWDM and OTN with IP and Ethernet layers. Packet switching is based either on commercial hardware.

You will be part of our dynamic SM Optics R&D team, which has been pioneering optical-based communication solutions for over 20 years. With a strong international sales presence and a dedicated R&D division, SM Optics provides cutting-edge packet-optical solutions supporting converged backhauling for fixed and mobile operators, as well as public sector markets.

We are fully open to candidates with full remote availability across different time zones, while hybrid work availability will be considered a strong preference.

Responsibilities

• Support the Product Line Manager in analyzing customer requirements.
• Define product specifications, including HW/SW architecture, functional behaviors, and management interfaces.
• Assist Development, Integration, and Quality Assurance teams by clarifying expected behaviors, contributing to effort estimation and planning.
• Provide troubleshooting and bug-fix support across labs when needed.
• Support the Pre-Sales team by responding to RFIs and RFQs.
• Potentially participate in customer-facing activities, such as requirements clarification meetings, system capability presentations, demos, and training sessions.
• Stay up to date with the latest technological advancements.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering, or related fields.
• At least 3 years of experience in Ethernet and IP switching and aggregation.
• Familiarity with Ethernet and IP standards: MEF, IEEE, ITU, IETF.
• Experience with LAG, MC-LAG, QoS, Ethernet OAM (IEEE 802.1ag, ITU Y.1731).
• Experience with IP routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Windows OS.
• Strong ability to write technical specifications and define management interfaces.
• Excellent English skills, both written and spoken.
• Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to synthesize different needs into effective solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Availability for hybrid work.
• Cisco certification CCNP service provider.
• Knowledge of MPLS, T-MPLS / MPLS-TP.
• Experience with Restconf / Netconf and YANG.
• Familiarity with Broadcom devices and Network Management Systems.
• Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., JIRA).
• Familiarity with TDM transport networks (SDH, OTN).
