The opportunity

Identify and implement product and technology development and maintenance strategies to enhance Hitachi Energy's global position and profitability in the area of Distribution Automation, for medium/long term.

Manage research and development (R&D) activities, global resources, and partners, together with all other functions for successful implementation of the product vision and strategy.

Reporting Line: AC Global Technology and R&D Manager

How You'll Make An Impact

1. Product direction: Support Distribution Automation Leadership to create, together with product management, a suitable product portfolio roadmap and execute it as part of the medium to long-term business strategy (3-5 years).
2. Technology direction: Define and create technology roadmaps for assigned domains and organize the required resources according to the R&D budget.
3. Innovation and creativity: Develop a culture and capability in the organization to challenge the status quo in technical issues, projects, and processes.
4. Projects, processes, and tools: Plan and ensure an optimal project portfolio. Oversee project execution, improve processes, and monitor product quality and change requests.
5. Product Lifecycle: Monitor product lifespan, manage defect backlog, resolve field issues, and ensure quality improvements in releases.
6. R&D context: Collaborate with global management, product management, and other departments to align R&D with market needs and innovations.
7. Network and visibility: Promote R&D internally and externally, build relationships, participate in technical committees, and manage collaborations.
8. Intellectual property and risk management: Protect IP, manage risks, and monitor IP issues.
9. Finance and budget: Prepare and track global R&D budgets.
10. People leadership and development: Manage and develop R&D personnel, ensuring proper staffing, skills, and motivation.

Your background

• University degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Science preferred).
• >10 years of experience in a similar role.
• Proven experience leading international teams.
• Experience in the energy industry or a strong affinity for working in a global, matrixed organization.
• Ability to coach, delegate, and foster collaboration and accountability.
• Data-driven mindset with the ability to translate insights into actions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across all organizational levels.
