Overview

The Director of Sales & Marketing leads the commercial strategy for Aethos Hotels in Italy, driving brand positioning, revenue growth, and market expansion. Aethos currently operates in Milan, Saragano, Sardinia and Monterosa, and we are growing! The role will define and execute sales and marketing plans, manage campaigns, CRM, partnerships, and social media, ensuring alignment with global brand standards. Working closely with General Managers and cross‑functional departments, the Director will track, analyse and report performance KPIs to continually elevate results and guest engagement. This is both a strategic and hands‑on position, requiring a proactive approach to executing initiatives, identifying efficiencies, improving processes, collaborating with other departments and supporting our Italian properties with their day‑to‑day commercial needs. The role will also be responsible for managing 2‑3 junior Sales & Marketing Coordinators located across Italy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sales and Market Strategy & Brand Positioning – Own the local & international market positioning of the brand in Italy, ensuring consistency with global brand guidelines while tailoring to local, regional & international audiences
  • Develop annual sales & marketing strategies and budgets for all Italian properties, aligned with commercial targets (ADR, occupancy, GOP, direct booking share & measured BtoB ROI)
  • Know the international leisure luxury market and MICE market – continue to grow the interest, engagement and loyalty into Aethos Italy Hotels
  • Build local networks to support other revenue streams on property such as F&B and Membership
  • Campaign & Content Management – Plan and execute integrated campaigns (digital, social, print, partnerships) to drive awareness and bookings; oversee creation of high‑quality content (photo/video, storytelling, social media) in line with brand voice; manage seasonal campaigns, launch moments, and property‑specific initiatives
  • Revenue Performance – Work closely with the commercial team to direct revenue growth through paid media, SEO, CRM, and website optimisation in collaboration with the central digital team; oversee always‑on performance marketing for the Italian properties, with clear KPIs and cost control; increase & optimise volume from existing clients B2B and prospect new revenue opportunities for all properties
  • CRM & Guest Engagement – Help shape the guest lifecycle communication for Italy: pre‑arrival, in‑stay, post‑stay; work with the corporate CRM team to ensure segmentation, personalisation, and database growth strategies are executed with Revinate/CRM; support loyalty or membership‑related marketing where relevant (events, communications, retention)
  • Partnerships, PR & Community Activation – Identify and manage strategic brand partnerships (local and national) that strengthen brand equity; work closely with PR agencies to drive coverage, press stays, and storytelling; plan and activate community‑driven initiatives (events, local collaborations, cultural programming)
  • Social Media & Influencer Marketing – Guide local social media content planning in line with brand content pillars; identify and manage influencer partnerships, ensuring measurable ROI; work with central teams to maintain a consistent presence on all major platforms
  • Team Leadership & Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Lead and develop a small cluster sales & marketing team (property marketing managers, coordinators); collaborate closely with GMs, F&B, Events, Membership (if applicable), and central brand/marketing teams
  • Analytics & Reporting – Deliver monthly commercial and sales & marketing performance reports; track KPIs across awareness, engagement, conversion, and revenue impact; use insights to shape strategy and improve ROI
Core Competencies & Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years in a leading Director of Sales & Marketing role on property or in a comparable position
  • Proof of success records
  • Experience in property positioning or repositioning
  • Hotel opening experience would be beneficial
  • International contacts in the hospitality BtoB world
