Job Description

The Director of External Manufacturing will manage a team of Manufacturing Professionals overseeing Third Party Manufacture (TPM) contracts for small molecule products. The role ensures high-quality production in compliance with local and international regulations, and that products are released and delivered according to forecasts, schedules, and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of AbbVie TPM Account Managers to negotiate Manufacturing Service Agreements, amendments, and ensure compliance with contractual terms.
• Develop and oversee planning and material procurement strategies to efficiently supply TPMs.
• Coordinate global logistics to support manufacturing agreements, ensuring alignment with Purchasing and Supplier quality standards.
• Maintain clear communication with TPMs regarding product forecasts, manufacturing, and delivery schedules.
• Lead the development of Financial Operating Plans, updates, and Standard processes to meet financial goals.
• Monitor manufacturing performance using appropriate metrics to ensure quality standards are met.
• Ensure TPMs have the necessary quality systems and documentation to meet regulatory requirements, including managing inspections and audits.
• Promote a culture of performance improvement and guide Account Managers to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Coach managers and establish clear expectations regarding responsibilities, goals, and behaviors.
• Coordinate management reviews and communicate TPM performance, issues, and improvement actions to stakeholders.
• Represent Manufacturing in internal collaborations and develop staff through hiring, performance management, and talent development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field; advanced degrees (Master’s or Doctorate) preferred.
• 15+ years of experience, including technical expertise and project management skills.
• Progressive leadership experience in Operations, including Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, or Engineering.
• Strong business acumen and functional leadership skills for complex operations.
